TV slurry tek why not??
    #26534852 - 03/14/20 01:27 PM (3 years, 10 months ago)

Returning member to the shroom, its been a minute. I have been growing mushrooms on and off for the past 20 years. I produce as needed and consume when my life is getting out of balance. I will be returning to the universe to produce a small batch featuring some P.E., Escondido, and Koh Sumui, enough said.

That out of the way,
I adopted tv's slurry tek over previous iterations starting about 5 yrs ago. This was an absolute game changer in my opinion. It is the fastest and most efficient spawning and fruiting I have ever produced. Yields are similar for me, (likely higher on average) but the speed is where it shines.

Im curious as to why this never rooted with more growers and what the reasons were.  Honestly one of the best concepts I've employed since I mastered the basics.

Agreed I understand we all have our preferences. I think after the extra headaches involved with producing quality liquid inoculants with stir bars, beakers, and heating elements that this was a breath of fresh air. I reached the point of literally pouring clean water into a colonized spawn jar, shaking, and pouring into the next prepped spawn jars. Easy peasy. Quart jars colonize in days. Don't fix what isn't broken goes for each individual though.

It was and still is a game changer. I loved it for a long time. but I no longer need endless amounts of spawn colonized in3-4 days. You can’t beat it knowing that you can steadily colonize tons of spawn that fast. Definitely was a game changer for me for a very long time.

There was a lot of bickering about clean cultures and what not on this forum then. So yes use a clean culture. But people on this forum are more into agar than pf cakes plain and simple. For me, I can colonize a pf cake in 3-4 days with a clean culture clone syringe. Use those pf jars as masters to colonize 100 quarts of grain each in 3-4 days. Most people who do criticize haven’t or won’t actually try it to understand. Its easy to say things, but doing them is another story.

People have no idea how much work they are doing. Seriously.

Thanks for the reply eats! Agreed that its more akin to having a sour dough starter that multiplies exponentially quick. You can only eat so much bread and pancakes lol. I think the beauty lies in the speed of mycelia growth that chokes out competitors. As long as initial jar sterilization is proper I've been able to pour and mix in the kitchen with no sterile redundancies. Furthermore with clean spawn, pressure cooking new spawn is pretty much the only sterilization I do at this point (I pour boiling water on my coir in a 5 gal to hydrate I guess). Proper humidity and air flow in the tubs and you're golden.

I just started this hobby about 6 months ago I was sold on this tek as soon as i saw it. No shake fast colonization who can beat it. I have a small mouth lc lid and a 3 blender attachments and the $8.00 50s chrome retro 500watt blender(I love thrifting)it fits regular mouth size so put the blades on with the metal ring with no mod and pc them, then I just switch to lc lid after hitting them in blender to suck out my lc and I use big ass food injection syringe that can hold like 40 mls. I can also switch the tip between the regular spore syringe sharp needle and the one that it comes with so i can cap it  it doesn't come with a cap:mad:. comes with a large gauge sharp tip that will suck up huge chunks of myc bc it has 2 large holes:syringe: I think I want to get one of those metal food injection guns kits has anyone used one?

High probability for contamination and getting the level of slurry to moisture in grain ratio correct. Also shaking the mix together without creating a slurry gob. Breaking up that gob with shaking on top fo the blender may have been too much for the mycelium. I'll know if a few days but the moisture level has me uneasy.

Short answer there is more to consider and get right before mixing the slurry into grins.

Or at least that is what I'm currently dealing with.

Injecting sterile water, shake and pull worked well and I may stick with it but this is a challenge I feel I need to master.
