Beyond the shittiest SAB created, advice please 1

I am aware just how shitty this is. Unfortunately, neither me nor my wife had a can we could heat up (we are struggling and very poor at the moment) and so I decided to raw dog this with a knife. I didn't heat it because I was paranoid about burning plastic fumes. I am hoping that this will suffice, of course I will wear a clean, alcohol dipped long sleeve shirt so this doesn't cut my arms, and I will probably tape the edges as well.
Unfortunately, when I was cleaning it and emptying the plastic shreds, I held this over a trashcan to empty it; do you think this is a big deal in introducing contamination to this SAB? I cleaned it with 70% alcohol afterwards though.

Enjoy the laughs.

Yeah, that's janky but its better than shooting spores into uncle ben. It should work. Supposedly a SAB works by creating drag on airborne particles, causing them to settle to the floor of the SAB. To that end you really don't have to worry about it getting contaminated, just make sure it is clean.
I'm not trying to be an asshole or anything, but if you can't afford a $4.00 no. 10 can of carrots then it might be best to put the hobby aside for a bit and try to focus on making your overall situation better.

As long as it functions. Youd think the alcohol would sanitize it well enough from the trash.

Money is tight at the moment, very tight, but even then, I am more OCD and concerned about plastic fumes from melting plastic.

You don’t need the inside to be sanitized. Wiping with alcohol is more than enough to get it in decent shape, but the way it works is by the inside air being still, so if a spore comes floating in an arm hole it will drop straight down.
When you’re about to start SAB work you just spritz the walls with water so any spores already around or that come in get stuck to the walls or bottom. That way if you do create a little air movement in there you’ll be less likely to have spores floating around.
Those holes are a little low, they’re ok for plate to plate transfers but when you have to get something inside a qt jar or if you try g2g it might be tough.
It doesn’t matter how it looks though at least ; ) you want holes to be at least 4” up to like 6 or so
And I wouldn’t worry about alcohol soaked sleeves or anything like that. You need to flame sterilize tools often and you don’t wanna light your self on fire. I do SAB work in a t shirt, sometimes not even wearing gloves if I’m just doing transfers. It’s all about smooth movements and not hovering your hands/arms over your work

Appreciate the wisdom. I didn't know these holes were too low, is that a big issue here? I was going to inoculate jars with this SAB. Also, I cut up a lot of plastic by accident (forward of the hole on the right) and I'm wondering if potentially loose plastic can be an issue (as in, don't want plastic particles in my jars).
I will tape the cut marks and the holes to be safe..

I wouldn’t worry about particles if you wiped it down. What kind of jars are you gonna be using?
For the pf tek with half pints you’ll be fine cuz they’re low. Qt jars you’d just need to bring more of your arm into the SAB to get to the top of the jar maybe. It will just be inconvenient I think is all but not catastrophic.

I will be using 1/4 pint (4 oz) jars, so even smaller. One thing I wonder is should I use duct tape on the jagged edges in my SAB? I've read duct tape may introduce contams/other chemicals, not sure about this one. Perhaps paper tape? Or just no tape and long sleeve shirt?
Thank you again

If I can find my first ever SAB I’ll post a picture. It ended up full of stuff when I moved but I cut my arm holes out of that one with a knife or something lol. I used some kind of green tape on the holes and it worked fine.
Welcome
