GETTING OLD(ER)
    #26878723 - 08/13/20 02:31 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

So, we're all aging as I type this, me even more than most in here more than likely, lol! I don't think I want to get to the point of needing help like this guy, but I don't know really. I want to be active and be able to do things for myself. If I start getting feeble etc...I just want to be able to go somewhere that I can just "go to sleep". I'm sure in 30 years or more there will be "final sleep centers" or something like that. I do like talking to and listening to older folks because they have a lot to tell you.

So would some of you choose to die when you want to even if you had no terminal illnesses or chronic pain? Or would/will you just slowly fade and try to live as long as you can with the meds and other people helping you like in the vid? IDK, I'm thinking when I can't do the ADL's (brushing teeth, wiping your ass, showering, cooking for yourself, etc...) I just want to go to sleep.

It will only destroy what you are not.

The only problem with that is by then it'll probably be too hard to score some fentanyl and do myself in.

There might places one can go though. You know, like The Sleep Center, but with an extra option, lol.

Getting older sucks.

:feelsoldman:

Hopefully they will have sleep centers with a bed, LSD, and a window I can enjoy.

Then it will be

I don't mind getting older actually. I love it. I have more clout, better position in life, people around me who really care about me as a person/who I really am, I'm married to a wonderful person, better job/more money and people that are really cool to be around without me worrying if they like me or not, and more things like other people my age that have the same things (money to do stuff, great jobs, houses or condos, they still like to do rec drugs). Getting really older like past 80 is where it starts to look more difficult. I'm guessing with my habits and what I've done in the past I may be mid 80's to late 80's and then die, but I really don't know.

In Holland we have euthanasia laws, and something like 40% of the people die by a form of mitigated death, either by terminal sedation (being put unconscious until dead) or by active euthanasia.

Active euthanasia can be selfadministered (a poison cup with, basically, 100ml sweet Sherry wine containing 9 grams nembutal sodium, or 2 injections by a physician)

Every nation should have good euthanasia and end-of-life laws.

We are OVERPOPULATED. Medical advances can PROLONG SUFFERING BEYOND NATURAL BOUNDARIES, we must have a rational approach to Euthanasia.

I'm very much in favor of the right to die with dignity.

I don't feel you even have to depend on be considered sick.

Life can be like a ride in a dryer: when you truly want out, we gotta let you out.

We should have Death Centers (sounds creepy :uhoh:) where people can check themselves in, can gather around as many close ones as they like for the passing over, and once dead, the second ceremony, saying goodbye and then up the chimney. Combine it, the euthanasia in the most life affirming way and then, cremation or burial.

I completely agree. I think sometimes that people are kept alive for money, plain and simple. I also think some people are selfish and don't want to have to go through the pain of seeing a loved one die. It seems like here  in the USA we are taught to fear death. I am not afraid. I am afraid of spiders!

I think this chart will look a LOT different in 20-30 years.

They used an IV of Midazolam and Morphine do induce unconsciousness.  I made sure with occasional tests whether she was still unconscious enough not to feel pain and had them increase the dosage several times. At the end of it they tapered the pure oxygen to ambient oxygen, and this caused her heart to give out and stop beating.

So, the drugs were to keep her unconscious and pain free, I made sure they upped that until there were no eyerolls and other reflexes that could indicate consciousness, she was kept alive by being ventilated with pure O2 so they tapered that by computer to ambient oxygen levels, in the knowledge it would suffocate hear heart muscle and she would die.

I only agreed to the passive euthanasia if a syringe with 500mg morphine HCl would be placed in the room so that if they botched her death like they botched her surgery, I could actively euthanize her myself with a lethal dose of morphine. The doctor said: "That would be illegal" I said: "Then I go to prison knowing I prevented her great agony."

The syringe was there, clearly marked 500mg Morphine HCl.

It was not needed, adjustment of her dormicum and morphine made her never regain consciousness, which is a damn good thing because she had emergency surgery and wasnt sutured in case they needed to go back in, she had gangrene and death spots on the lower half of her body.

I would have gone to prison to prevent her waking up in a three quarters dead body and the unspeakable agony that would bring.

But it was not needed and she died with dignity.

Sorry that I sound like some kind of Nazi doctor but the thing is: if they botched that procedure there was no authorization for active euthanasia so the nurses would have to stand by while she died in agony. Not my mom, even if I had to do it myself and go to jail for it :makesmecry:

Thats Love guys.  Would you? I hope you would.

Wow, that's almost unbelievable. Do you know if I have to speak the language to receive that hospitality or do refugees have access?

Generally if you're being medically treated in Holland, you'll fall under that system I believe.

I don't think they'll go "he's foreign, withhold humane treatment"

I watched my Mom fight terminal cancer for 5 years, 3 of which she had 0 quality of life.  When I decide to go, i'm doing it and fuck anyone's opinion.  I have enough compounds to create a toxic cocktail that will guarantee results with no pain (that I'm aware off).  That being said, I'll probably push to the point that my quality of life is non-existent before i metaphorically pull the trigger.

My grandfather got to 75 before Parkinsons made it so he could hardly stand anymore and they wanted to start getting people in to care for him in bed. He washed a bottle of sleeping pills down with a third of a bottle of brandy, no fucking around. Didn't want to be demeaned and be a drain on everyone else. He was always like that. Never fucked around with anything that he did. Had great stories, traveled the world and got up to all sorts of mischief. Very full life.
It was funny, he actually called me a few days before he did it. It seemed just to say g'day and see how things were going. I guess to hear my voice one last time. I appreciate that, speaking to him one last time too.
