First fruit! :) a couple questions...
    #26878663 - 08/13/20 02:04 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

so I just harvested my first mushroom..5g wet  I cut it as close as I could to the cake ..A lot of the mushrooms growing  have ‘fuzzy feet’ especially the one i just harvested...(thinking too much moisture) ..anyway I cut below the fuzz so its part of the mushroom and noticed the stem isn’t hollow at all, aren’t they supposed to be hollow? Is it ok to keep the fuzz or should I cut it off? Spores also deposited before the veil fully broke, there’s black powdery stuff on the stem, i’m assuming this is ok too? Lastly, how should I dry this single fruit? it popped up waay before the rest..Should I put it in dehydrator?
thanks!

  • Stem can be hollow or full. It all depends on genetics and variety. I've grown GT's that have hollow stems but my APEs didn't.

  • No reason to cut off the fuzz, it's just mycelium and is harmless.

  • Yes, a mushroom dropping spores does not affect its viability for consumption. And I've eaten plenty of mushrooms with spores dropped on them from neighboring mushrooms. Also safe, just tastes a bit more bitter than usual.

  • I'd say just eat it and have a nice micro/low dose and test your bad boys out all in one go! But if you opt to dehydrate it, just use whatever method you planned on using for your grows. So if you have a dehydrator, you can throw it in the dehydrator.

Fuzzy feet are quite usual for cubes.
No need to remove it, it disappears when drying.

Just make a cup of tea for a little buzz
Or perhaps put in the fridge and wait for the rest.
I won't run a dehydrator for one shroom

A spore load in the tub isn't an issue.

Hollow stems are genetic, you may clone for solid ones.

EDIT: Socrates was faster, but it was too much work
with the tablet to just delete it

yeah in my recent flush of hillbilly, i had hollow AND full stems in the same flush. definitely just genetics. i cloned a full stem shroom so hopefully my next run will have all full stem

so i’m guessing full stems are preferable to hollow? are they more potent or something?

From my experience, it can affect potency for the following reason:

In a cooler environment, you tend to get solid bodies.
At higher temps, they grow faster but also tend to be hollow.

Look at some PE or APE. As we know they take longer to fruit,
they have meaty stems, and there`s nothing but blue in them.
Also potency is heavily increased due to that extra time.
