Nah, leave them there. Sidepins are as fine as the ones from the surface.. If you get aborts, just pick them at harvest.

I was following a tek from Myco madness on YouTube, it also included rice hulls but they arrived very late and my grain was already fully colonized so I made the substrate without it. Using so many ingredients did give me a pause but I figured as long as I pasteurize everything well and use correct ratios I should be alright. Now I think it might have over done it for my first grow and it would have been a better idea to just use coir and verm for the sub so I just inoculated another tub with just verm coir and colonized grain.
This manure tub dried out a little, even when I was inoculating the sub I noticed that the sub was a little dry (I had made the sub two days prior to using it) so I did give it a light misting while inoculating, but still the surface conditions were dry when I opened it up for fruiting and noticed that there was no water droplets/beads on the surface so I had to start misting in order to get some water droplets stay on the surface, I’ve only misted it two time and so far it look good but then I don’t really know. I’ll be happy if I get any fruit if not then lesson learned hopefully the other tub does better. Will see

It looks great buddy! I wish I had that thick mycelium poking out like that but mine is thinner and whipsy. The pins look very nice as well, I’m very glad your grow is going so well, keep it up!

You shouldn`t be worried about that. There`s no fully white myc carpet needed for a good pinset.

Any tips on misting and fanning at this point?
I have 4 1/2 inch holes at substrate level covered with one layer of Micropore tape and two hole at the top also covered with one layer of Micropore tape. I’m keeping the lid closed for the most part, sometimes I crack it open after misting to let the water beads evaporate a little before replacing the lid but usually it stays on. At this point I’m fanning and misting twice a day.

Don't mist anymore now. As you dialed in with micropore tape, you don't need to mist and fan this much. I'd perhaps open an upper hole for more FAE.

Perfect! Thank you. I had something similar in mind but wanted to be sure. I’ll open up half of the top holes for more FAE

So,I’ve been reading up on monotubs, and I’ve come to realize that I messed up a lot during hydrating and inoculating my sub, the sub lost a lot of moisture from the two big GE holes which were covered only with a single layer of Micropore tape. If I had sealed up my tub properly and hydrated my sub to proper field capacity I wouldn’t have had to mist during fruiting. A correctly “dialed in” tub does not need to fanned or misted throughout the first flush, it allows just enough FAE to keep the shrooms breathing well and builds up humidity to keep them happy. After reading up on how to dial in your tub I was able to fiddle with the Micropore tape to the point where the bottom 4 holes allow very little exchange and the top holes allow for a good amount of fresh air, that way fresh air comes in through the top and out the bottom (I have a ceiling fan running 24/7 on low). I’ve had this setup for two days now almost and kept the lid closed. The pins are growing nicely and I haven’t felt the need to mist and fan at all. The sides and lid has a nice layer of condensation and things are going well. This grow so far has been a huge learning experience, I have more spawn that’s almost ready to put to bulk and this time I’m gonna employ what I’ve learned and hopefully this next grow will be better. I’m very thankful to all you guys who helped me along the way. You are the best. Mush love.

You always have to dial in to your environment. Of course you can start off by following the hole placements to the tee, but in the end there`s no formula for everyone. You always have to tweak a bit.
Once you know about it, things get easy.
