Are My Shoeboxes ready to fruit?
    #26878250 - 08/13/20 10:44 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hey all,

I have two shoeboxes I spawned to substrate on 7/24.  I cased the top with a thin layer of the same substrate I mixed the spawn with.  They have been colonizing in a martha with 95%+ humidity so they are pretty much in growing conditions now, however I don't see any pins.  I was going to open up the boxes and do the "dubtub" method to try and trigger pinning.  What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I would say that's ready, I'm surprised it hasn't pinned on you. Have fun!

That is some dense mycelium! I would just flip the lid and rest it back on top, no need to dub-tub. Maybe skew it so that there's a bit of a gap for air. This helps to keep the conditions nice and humid inside the tub, but still allows for ample fresh air exchange.

What strain are those?

I actually didn't mix into the bulk sub until 8/5 so it's been just over a week.  I just put them into a big 105 qt sterlite tub that I put 6 one inch holes that I stuffed with polyfill.  I'll leave them be for another week for the pinning before getting worried.

I think they still have a ittle time because they havent finished colonizing the top. So maybe another week approximately to start pinning. Maybe up to 10 more days. But definitely flip the lid and give them some time.

I know right?! I've never seen mycelium this thick.  It's like a white blanket.
I'm a little scared it could be overlay?? They've actually only been colonizing the substrate for about a week now so I'm sure I'll see some pinning soon.  These are Northern Oregon Coast Flying Saucers -- Psilocybe azurescens.

I think you meant to ask what variety - each variety (B+, APE, etc.) contains thousands of strains
