Blackout on shrooms?
    #26877896 - 08/13/20 05:16 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I experienced a bad trip yesterday and I’m not sure what to make of it.

This was my second time taking shrooms and I only took around 2 grams. For the first 3 hours or so of my trip, everything was fine but then around 4 hours in I switched my location (bad idea) and entered a very painful trip. I was just intensely sad, almost unconsolably crying and a little skiddish too. Anyways, my plan was just to get through it until I got a work email about a deadline, and this gave me so much anxiety that I temporarily blacked out.

The way this blackout happened was right before I got a really bad headache, and then I just felt overwhelmed like I needed to go to sleep, and the person I was with was talking to me but he voice got really muffled. When I came back I felt much better and more relaxed but she was screaming and asking me why I wasn’t responding to her. She told me she thought I had a seizure. Honestly, i don’t know the difference between a seizure and a blackout (in terms of what it looks like or how it feels) but what I do know is that I have never had a seizure before, I didnt smoke weed or take meds beforehand, as far as I know i didn’t close my eyes and I could still very faintly hear what people were saying (although I couldn’t make it out). In my head it couldn’t have lasted more than a few seconds. I think there’s a high chance I was dehydrated since it was incredibly hot out that day and my dehydration mixed with the stress of a bad trip caused the blackout/seizure ??

My question is; is this normal? Should I be concerned about underlying health issues or any affect this might have had on my brain? I slept it off and am waking up the next day (today) feeling totally normal but I’m worried that maybe I should’ve/should go to the doctor and just tell them what happened Incase it signifies anything more. To be honest, it could just be run of the mill but it was also really scary so I’m not sure what my next steps would be, if any. Please let me know when you get the chance. Thank you so much.

These things happen. Nothing odd with a trip taking a turn into any emotion. I've had trips range from extreme bliss, to confusion to profound dread and sadness.

Generally, people will advise that you trip free of obligations and away from work. It can really take your trip south if you're in the depths of a psychedelic experience and get yanked into dealing with work. I recommend, in the future, if you plan to trip, set aside any and all work obligations until the next day.

blacked out.

If it puts your mind at ease, see a Doctor. No harm in doing so.

I have similar experiences when I'm dehydrated and get up too fast. I get terrible vertigo when I stand up, almost to the point of blacking out. And, although I've never "blacked out" on mushrooms, I've had experiences where I "whited out". It was just part of the experience, psychedelics can cause a wide range of effects, some which seem scary because the experience is amplified (Vs. alcohol where I blacked out a few times but alcohol dulls the senses so I never worried when it happened).

Anyway, it's hard to accurately diagnose what happened. It could be dehydration, low blood sugar or an underlying condition. Or, it could have simply been a manifestation of the psychedelic experience.

If you have access to a Dr, and COVID isn't preventing you from seeing one, I'd say get a regular checkup (bloodwork and the like) and if you feel more worried, get a check up from a neurologist.

Good luck!

I'm not sure what it is "objectively" but for me it was similar to a blackout where everything went white, however, my other senses were enhanced instead of impaired. So in a sense, it is being very "high" and overwhelmed but not in a negative way (at least it wasn't for me). Felt almost like an NDE where I was being engulfed by something celestial or heavenly.

Don't stress OP. If you drop "seizure on mushrooms" in the search box in the top right you'll find loads and loads of people who have passed out or had mini seizures when tripping. It's really common. Not something to worry about, just something to avoid by staying well hydrated and energized.

I see it as blackout not seizure
blackout is common ON ALL PSYCHEDELICS when the dose is too high for the circumstances.
Frequently, if it happens at all, it happens repeatedly since the dose can be way too high.

people who like to dose very high enjoy the wild experiences just before blackout and just after (it's like having an REM dream when you emerge from blackout or fall into it-) - things may be tingling and sparkling like mad. (I am not into the blackout thing.)

your dose seemed like it would not normally be too high, so I think your constitution may be weak (need to look at diet, sleep and exercise), or you may be a small person - no problem just dose more gently. petite people are more economical to dose (haha - me too)

and yes the situation your mind set and your environment affect the trip greatly, and emotionality which is kind of like a psychedelic itself, can exaggerate the drug effect, and that emotionality could conceivably push you into an extreme high dose effect like blackout.

a hippie would say the trip becomes more boring when it becomes blackout (nothing)

like when you're on acid and don't want to sleep because it's so great

You got too high and freaked out, which is common. As long as you didn't send a reply to the message while tripping and aren't physically hurt you're fine. If a person is actively working i'd suggest not tripping until you have a few days off in a row, no deadlines, and don't read work stuff while tripping ffs...
