New Here and to Growing Mushrooms Some basic Questions

Hi, Glad to be here, thanks for all your help in advance.
I would like to know the optimal conditions for growing inoculated grain spawn in jars or bag in terms of temperature, humidity and amount of light. Id like to make or use a cabinet for storing the colonizing grain spawn
Also, what are the optimal conditions for growing out agar in terms of temperature, humidity and amount of light as well.
For temperature regulation I was considering either using a ceramic space heater or using temperature controlled seedling heat mats. Im wondering which will be more effective.
Thanks

If it's comfortable for you, it's comfortable for cubes. Around 68-72 degrees F, but if you're a bit above or below that range it's fine. If possible, 6500K lighting on a 12 hour on, 12 hour off cycle. If not, indirect sunlight is fine for starting out.
If you have to heat due to low temps, it is always better to heat the room rather than heat the jars/tubs/plates directly.

Never, really never use heating mats for mycoworks. You'll ask for trouble in different directions. It's not only your tub getting too hot inside, a friend of mine set half of his room on fire, due to a bad produced mat. That was 20 years ago, today's mats may be better, but there's not a single benefit to us.

These temps and lighting conditions are for the colonization of the jars and agar only?

It holds true for all stages. Agar, colonization of jars, tubs, through to harvest. After that, dried fruits should be stored only in an air tight container in a cool place with little to no light

What’s the temperature like where you live? Unless you are in a very cold environment you don’t really need to be worrying about temperature right now. They will be fine at temperatures states above but even lower you will still get colonized grains. Same goes with humidity. I live in Texas, I’m going to inoculate and keep them in my “office” without any additional work. Sometimes complicating these things will produce bad results. Higher temps like stated before can introduce greater risk for contamination. Long time ago I used a Martha but from research I could’ve been doing monotubs with better results. Keep it simple.

Awesome, thank you for the info. Yes, I am known for complicating things but I do like to make sure all the variables are accounted for. Mush Love

Well the hobby is about testing and data honestly. Try it the way you want to do it but also follow bods easy as fuck TEKs for simple cultivation. Do a side by side comparison of controlling the environment vs basically set it and forget it, well misting and far as needed. See what method performs better. You won’t know until you try. One run won’t be enough data, the more times you do it you can get a better understanding of what works best.
