Colonization question
    #26875930 - 08/11/20 09:16 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hello,

I've read a few conflicting opinions on where to store inoculated BRF jars for optimal colonization (PF TEK method). Some say dark places others say some light is needed. I am so scared of contaminants from the air that I put them in a tupperware bin with the lid on in a dark closet (only been 2 days). But reading about GE perhaps not the best option?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

From my understanding light is beneficial at all stages of growth.

I have heard that light is beneficial for all stages but I usually keep my brf jars in a box that has plenty of air space in it. I have to keep them in a box, taped shut, because I live in an area where fruit flies will find them and contaminate them for me.

I can't stay away from my experiments and I look at them almost daily which refreshes the air in the box. I have not noticed any slowed colonization due the lack of any real light hitting the jars but even if mine colonize a few days slower its worth it for me to keep the fruit flies at bay.

I don't seal the box air tight and like I said I do open the box almost daily to look at the progress they are making. That being said an air tight container would scare me. I do like to give mine plenty of fresh air, within reason, for the conditions I am forced to grow in.

It is possible that light plays another roll that I am not aware of but when I case them under coir they seem to take off like mad and my flushes come quick. I do use a mixture of brown rice and wbs. I usually use coarsely ground the wbs and I usually get 3 good flushes but nothing like the 1st. The second and 3rd always produce larger, more beautiful shrooms.

Hope this helps.
