The Towel in the SAB, plate contams

Ok towel haters calm down.
So I use a thin dish towel under that grate pictured. I rinse the towel in the sink and wring it out pretty good. I also use the same towel many times. I take the towel out and hang it up after each sess where it completely dries out.
Is this the way to do it?
The thing is I'm still in noobland with imaculate contamination (AKA) of my dishes. Last run I used some agar from the fridge, boiled over a bit in the microwave but finally completely melted. I poured at 114F. No condensation, Mongo like! But way too many are contaming. I also do a lot of other stuff, just asking about the towel for now, thanks for your time.

I used to do exactly what you described. Don't think I ever washed that towel lol

Don't think the towel has anything to do with your shit tamming out.

How soon after pouring do they contaminate?
Do you 'store' the unused poured plates? I just recently started to do it because my blank plates have been tamming out

Generally a week, sometimes a few dayz, and almost always edge contam. The last couple looked ok, but edge contamed after adding a wedge. I'm using corning plates which have been oven sterilized 400F, 2 hrs, foil wrapped, unwrapped in the SAB for the pour. After pouring they sit in the SAB for a day, then cling wrap 5 at a time and into a dresser drawer. I tried pre-pour several ways with dismal results.
I've learned lots here from youz guys.
1. Work at the back of the 90 qrt SAB 2. Trying not to pass over the plates 3. Pile books on top to weigh it down 4. Gloves, mask, glasses, hat, wristwatch off. 5. I wipe the inside walls with a lysol wipe and let it sit awhile 6. The arm holes are covered till I start 7. The room has no air movement 8. Say ten hail Marys and sacrafice a virgin!
Mebbe I should quit adding oat broth to the agar, Team Telephone. I boil the oat broth and LME for awhile before adding agar. 500 mL Jar is pc'd with loose cap and foil.

Try wrapping them immediately.
I'm battling the same thing right now. All my plates are tamming out and if I dont wrap them immediately after pouring they contam. It's a huge pain I used to be able to let them sit until they dried out. but, not any more.

Thanks Mushboy!
Mebbe temperature fluctuations are sucking air into the plates. I typically get lots of rings in the myc.
I also did not put a sleeve over the plates, like from pp's.

I read in another thread that edge contam is sometimes a result of condensation , which causes the plate to be sealed by water and any airborne microbes that touch the water then end up all up in the plate.
No wristwatch makes sense to me, but why no gloves, mask, glasses, or hat? I thought gloves were especially a good idea, had no idea it could be detrimental.

I carefully select the fungal strain and onto the agar, I make it rain. With a steady hand and gentle touch, I inoculate the plate without a hitch. Success is sweet when it's pure and true, and my agar plates are a testament too. A job well done, with no contamination, my fungi inoculation, a thing of admiration.
