13 year old syringe
    #26874816 - 08/11/20 10:47 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hey folks, I joined the site just to share my first attempt at cultivation.

Back in 2007 I was excited to finally try growing some mushrooms. I ordered a syringe of B+ and Golden Teacher from a site called [name removed]. Life then took a few sharp turns... long story short, I didn't end up using them. For the past 12-13 years, they have been stored in basically an attic (super hot in summer, super cold in winter).

After all this time, I have no clue what spurred me, but I'm trying it (figure it's better than just tossing them).  So I followed a PF Tek guide on youtube, and after 4 days, the GT jars all have white at the inoculation sites but, so far, none of the B+ jars have signs of life.
Wish me luck!  I'm really excited about this and will post a pic soon. I really didn't expect for any of it to be viable. I shook the syringes for about 45min non stop before I used them, lol.

Thanks man. I've read that they expired after a few months or something... figure this may be some kind of record if it works out!

You might want to have a backup plan. Extreme hot/cold can been harmful to spores. I kept my prints in a non-insulated attic for two hot summers and below freezing winters. The next round of jars all came out with either contamination or no sign of any growth. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would also be very surprised if anything good happened. I have been trying to work with 9 year old prints and am not having any luck with PF type teks but I am not giving up yet and plan on some soft agar attempts this weekend.  I do wish you luck but years ago it was accepted knowledge that high heat will kill spores. I have not researched this lately and that accepted truth may be outdated.

Normally with old prints I suggest making a spore syringe and letting it sit for a couple days.  Doubt it works in reverse lol. :badsurprise:  In all seriousness though... I'm surprised it hasn't germinated in all that time...

Hey everyone, so it's been exactly 14 days. All of my B+ jars developed green mould after 6 days. All of my Golden Teacher jars look like the attached: let me know what you think so far! I think it looks okay, but after browsing the contamination thread, I'm really unsure.

Hell yeah.

The OG golden teacher genetics. Curious if they have the cap lumps. Also I’d love a print when they fruit. Really old spores seem to be way more diverse probably since they haven’t been constantly bred and cloned for 25 years.
