I have a very depressed friend . He was addicted to heroin around 2000 and after a relapse he robbed a store with a fellow addict and his addict buddy had a gun so he ended up getting 25 years lock up
I write him almost every other month for the last 20 years .
He's funny as hell , but obviously depressed .
Would anyone want his prison address to send him any kind of mail ? 2 pages front to back can be sent , but he likes any kind of mail or stories , it's the time that's driving him mad just watching tv everyday and reading literature . 1 hour outdoors .
Jon Kaspar # 1298017. Wallens ridge state prison P.o. Box 759 Big stone gap , VA. 24219
If you're bored and need to vent or tell stories or just anything he ll write back .....he especially likes writing girls ......go figure ....but I think anyone could write him anything and he d be able to process the next couple years .
Is it against forum rules to post his address ? I ve already asked him if it's ok and he agreed . So if it's ok here I'd like to post it for anyone who wants to help a melfa .

That is very thoughtful of you... I could send him things I and a few friends have written from time to time... I think he would enjoy and get something out of them... I don't know if I would feel comfortable providing a return address though, considering my activity here on this website... I'll talk to my friends and get something out to him next week...

Does this friend have any support? anyone contributing to his commissary? I've been known to help out a stranger here and there, especially if they are seriously trying to help themselves. That could be any one of us that has tried or used H, I refuse to believe that being an addict makes a person irredeemable.

You're absolutely right Doc... Addicts are redeamable on every level... I read an amazing book by Dr Gabor Maté MD titled "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction" It blew my own theories regarding addiction out of the water... One word... "Trauma" Trauma plays a direct role in all forms of addiction...
