About to work with pan prints for the first time. Do they require anything different from cubes as far as putting them to agar? Any specific tek yβall recommend?

lol ya pretty much sounds like ya got it figured outππ
but seriously its the same as any other man i just streak with sterile swabs and wait to see germination then once i do il make transfers right away like as soon as i see germination not full blown myc. i just like to get shit to their own plates as soon as possible and then il make my transfers as needed but i dont spend too much time on agar. i try to get good clean fast growth on grain as soon as possible and start fruiting to find my clones

Make some pastywhyte plates, if you don't have medical swabs, I've used qtips successfully, too. An inoculation loop isn't necessary. I've never used one before and have worked with lots of prints to agar. In a still-air-box (SAB) swab spores from print to agar or drip a drop of spore solution on a plate. It will germinate within 10 days or so generally, if you made your agar right. This is pretty straight forward stuff. Check out the grow logs. Search pastywhyte plates, Still air box (SAB) RGS tek. That will get you going. Learn to pasteurize horse or cow manure - there are lots of ways to do this depending on what supplies you have available (oven, buckets, big ol' pot, etc). Finally, have a fruiting chamber ready to go. Shot-gun-fruiting-chamber (SGFC) is super cheap and works well with pans if you're able to give the SGFC some attention a few times a day.

It was in an old grow log of gymnopilus and he said he had been working on a new woodloving pan from Africa and he was having trouble with it because all the fruits would abort before they could ever drop spores. I looked through so many grow logs today I canβt find it now

Yβall say the loop is not necessary, But what is it that you would rather buy hundreds of q tips? I love my loops they are only like 6 bux on amazon and a pack of 25 replacement loops is only a few bucks... they last a decent time to ( the loop itself the handle last for decades).

I donβt even use a proper loop. I fashioned one out of some vape coil wire and attached it to the end of a paintbrush with some tape...gets red hot and works a treat...not had to replace it yet

Loops are easy to make too. If you have some ecig wire on hand (kanthal/nichrome/etc), a drill and pliers, you can twist a piece into a loop in 30 seconds

Made mine at work when bored.. used a bic pen with the ink tube removed, made a loop from a paper click and epoxied it in.. done nothing special bout a loop as far as i can tell.

Personally, I probably use no more than 10 swabs a year. I like swabs for storage and trade. For me, busting out a pre made swab and streaking real-quick when I'm ready works just fine. I understand some people do a lot more growing than I do, and maybe the loop makes sense for those of you. The 100 pack of those 2x swab packs will probably last me forever because of how infrequently I start projects.
So, not anti-loop, just pointing out to someone that there are other options, too.
Celestial, that sounds like a great deal on scalpels... I need to get on it.

Forward progress lol. My middle tray is a little slow because I cased it a little thick. Still happy with the results though!

I was mostly wondering if the agar recipe needed to be adjusted in any way for pans. Seeing that manure substrate is mandatory, I thought they may have different nutrient requirements. I appreciate the knowledge, everyone!
