It's been about 2 weeks since nocking up via T3 agar wedge. I don't see anything that looks like contams, and the color looks solid to me. But the mycelium is reaching up into the air on top of the grain (hope you can see it) and I read somewhere that "whiskering" like that could be a contam sign.

Update 8/10: OK, broke the quart into two trays. Tray 1 has a little more coir and a little more grain-- Tray 2 I made lighter.

UPDATE 8/14 Sorry for the shitty lid-on pics, but I had to go to work and didn't have time for a better lid off shot.

UPDATE 8/19 Here they are now:

UPDATE 8/22 Lots of pins on tray 2!

UPDATE 8/23 Pins now starting on tray 1-- but I'm seeing some wispyness in the center that has me wary- don't know if you can really see it in the picture
Damn, Tray 2 ain't fucking around

UPDATE 8-25: Tray 1:
 Tray 2:

UPDATE 8/26 Tray 1

Tray 2. Fucking midgets. Cute midgets... but just fucking midgets.
On work days I have no chance to tend to them until evenings, so I harvested the ones with broken veils since I can't do anything again until tomorrow night.

Not what I was hoping to come from this so far-- all of those will barely be a single dose... alas, we'll see what comes later I guess.
UPDATE: 8/27: Tray 2 finished opening up (mostly)
 Second wave of harvest:

So far, that makes nearly 55g wet (~5.5g dried) from tray 2's first flush already-- and I expect to get some more action from it in the coming week. Feeling good about it.

Tray 1 looks like it's going to get them a little bit bigger-- don't know if it's the additional rye spawn, coir, or both.

UPDATE 8/28:
Tray 1 popped today-- They were modestly larger than the tray 2 babies.

I harvested all of them with broken veil (or imminently so), totaling 40.5g wet. (sorry, the scale shut off before a pic and I didn't want to unstack/tare/restack)
Tray 2 is mostly unchanged from harvest the other day, so no pic.
This brings my total dry weight so far to 9.5g.
UPDATE 8/29 Tray 1 & 2 follow-up/1st flush total harvest

Came home and the rest of the tray had opened up, so I harvested the remainder on that tray (~50g wet, pictured). I also went ahead and pulled the little aborts and stalled mini's on the other tray 2, which added an additional ~20g wet, bringing my first flush final total from both trays to ~16g dry.
UPDATE 9/6 Tray 2 is doing very nicely on its second flush

Tray 1 has just begun putting out a few new pins, but only at one edge and a couple are out of the side-- not worth a pic just yet.
UPDATE part 2, 9/6 Well, I should have waited a bit longer to post that update, because from this morning to now the flush opened up!

Went ahead and harvested all the ones with broken veils-- leaving only the two small ones at the edge that look like they have a little more room to grow, resulting in a decent wet weight of ~47g wet.

I'm starting to think I might get a full ounce from these two trays before it's all over after all
Update 9/7 The other two shrooms remaining on tray 2 opened up today, so I harvested at another 10g wet weight. 2nd flush total rises to ~57g wet.

This brings my running dry total (estimated) so far to just under 22 grams dry.

I'd spawn it as long as it smells fine. 👍
Looks healthy to me.

The yellowing, moisture in the jar, thick appearance and tufts indicate bacteria most likely.
You could try to spawn those to get some fruits but definitely dont expand them

That's what I feared-- I've had them in the high 70's (hard to keep anything cool in here) so I hoped the condensation was just the high temps-- and the spawn was on the moist side (but well within standard)
To mitigate any infection, do you think a shoebox would be a good course, maybe just case the grains with coir?

I put my bacterial jars spawned in small trays so the spawn can colonize the sub quicker than if it were put in a monotub or something larger. In my experience, bacterial spawn colonizes super slow and sometimes completely stops. Having less to colonize prevents this mainly. At least thats what Ive experienced.
Recently did this and I am pulling a few ozs per flush off like 3 trays. Its worth it since I didn't have to throw anything out, no waste.

Maybe I will break it in half and split it into two smaller trays and coir it on top-- I have some small ~6"x8" seedling containers that would do ok-- then I could fit both in one shoebox with their clear lids on. I had high hopes for this one-- I will keep it away from everything else while I prep it and I guess we'll see if it can generate any fruit.

OK, let's see if we can get anything from it: FWIW, it smelled very mushroomy and there was no slime, strangeness or funk that I could detect... Straight coir cased atop-- no mixing.

I didn't mention it earlier but this one has roughly twice the thickness of coir and a little more rye as the other one-- may explain why it's a couple days behind.

I'm noting that the caps look pretty small on these as they're coming up-- should I increase air exchange a little or should I just keep things as they are and let them go until they hit the plastic cover and I switch to a plastic bag cover?
