Wow, he really does look like Franco.
And know, I can't watch the original, just can't do it. And yes if it played at midnight when Covid is done I would and bring some items. The Artist, yes. All the mystery about it and this weird Polish guy putting up 8 million of his own money and know one knows him.
All the theories are amazing and doing it himself and now it has turned into a midnight screening like Rocky Horror Picture Show with people bringing in plastic spoons and such to throw during it.
And the guy is so vague on everything and still no one knows about him to the best of my knowledge. Though if one put it on Reddit, and probably someone has, they might find out.
Just really strange. Like this producer or film maker saying. It is like if you took an alien that had never seen a movie before and had 8 million and made a movie that you would say everything was, don't do this and in perfect symatry he did the opposite, you would get this. Oh yeah, the miniture footballs, lol.
And Franco said he paid that much for a movie that looked like it cost 6 dollars and seeing what he spent money on is so ridiculous. Strange how movies, it made like 1,500 in two weeks in L.A. then he said he, the original director pulled it. I don't know, cult movies are ones that flop and are not planned then do well for, how does one explain it?

I liked the franco one. I saw it and have never seen the original one. I would see the room listed on midnight show venues but never really looked into it. I would watch it now. Might be fun to be really stoned as well.

Yeah it would be funner with fucked up people at a midnight screening. YOU ARE KILLING ME SARAH! I don't know, that line just cracks me up, the acting is so horrendous from the guy that made the whole thing. And the football throwing, so American.
Who the fuck jogs 5 feet apart and throws a football between people? Just seen clips and funniest moments on youtube from the original but yeah, I get why Franco and his younger brother found is so funny and did the Artist and if not on any substance, would find it boring as hell.
Thinking about it in this day and age how someone can remain that mysterious is amazing. I don't even think reddit could unravel it. Everyone, since this is the shroomery educated guess is most, when in an esoteric state of being/mindframe one can find the absurd so amazingly funny and amusing.
People that go out late are practically always fucked up on something. Reopening theatres now where I live so hopefully it will play at an independent one. Might actually call and request it. They have a place called the Tower, a shithole and not a real tower. With speakers that are in front and kind of grimy. But a good place to get fucked up and throw shit around and not get arrested.

There was a theater in ft wt tx of all places back in the 80's that you could smoke cigs in at midnight shows, a lot of people also smoked weed and no one ever got caught and the police never busted you, it was a strange time and place. Very short lived though.

Yeah, 80's kid. To young then to get it but I do now. Days before political correctness and so much more live and let live in America. Glad for those experiences because there is so much worry and fear nowadays and fascism in the States.
God we had fun in our neighborhood.
Watching the movie again on Netflix last night and have a whole new insight on it having seen so many clips of the original. First time it was a Franco movie and I like his movies but didn't get much of it of course.
But to your point about what was allowed and not. I miss it and it is only going to get worse. I get looked at as the Prince of Darkness just getting fucked up at a comedy club by the staff. But overall, have learned what to avoid with people and places and have a lot of great memories and some bad ones but I learn. They trick one into believing in societal conditioning to trust anyone in authority and to fear all the wrong things.
Even so I don't feel all that negative about life much at all anymore. Nature is wonderful when there is no judgement and breaks from society. I think that is why people like the movie so much though the main character in the room is a mystery but in a good and honest, fearless way. He doesn't care about social norms or worshiping at the alter of what others think.
I think many connect with that. And it is fucking hilarious to have that innocence in Hollywood and people endlessly tell him he is going to fail and is horrible as an actor, which he is, but their is quirky and genuine integrity/quality to it that I love.

I've seen the original movie. They played it at a movie night st a local bar/restaurant, so I watched it with a bunch of people. It's worth seeing if you were interested by the Franco film; the plot is unfollowable but you have to keep watching just to see where it eventually goes.
That guy's brain just works in a totally different way. He apparently has absolutely none of the sense that would be considered "common".
Some movies that have "cult" followings you need to have watched at a certain point in your life, like as a kid, or else you'll watch it and wonder what the big deal is. Goonies is one example like that, IMO.
But The Room falls into the category of so ridiculous that you can hardly believe it was made at all. Which makes for fun watching in a group because you can laugh at it together and try to identify all the craziness.

I don't know man, when I think of him it just makes me laugh. Get why it turned into a cult classic and yeah a midnight screening. Besides Rocky Horror does anyone know of any other movie where one can throw shit pertaining to the movie and laugh with a rowdy fucked up crowd and friends?
I agree with you. The picture of Franco and his younger brother for the poster laughing while watching it with their sense of humor I get why they did it and I guarantee they saw it together before making the movie of course. His brother can act.
Still the saying is the guy made a movie that looks like it cost 6 dollars that James Franco said and spent 8 million reading about it adjusted with inflation, I get why they did the movie.
They think he is from Poland. Using language accent experts. Who knows? What he does is considered eccentric, if he was poor would be a different story, and no one knows where his money came from. I find that endlessly amusing how he meanders through conversations especially, New Orleans, you know from here and there and I lived in other places, the big easy. When he has no clue. Then just goes on to the next thing.
Strange person in a good way. Why you need to ask? Why not do it now? And other things he says or Franco says. Just find it endlessly amusing.
