Cakes not fruiting
    #26872221 - 08/09/20 07:38 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hi Shroomers, I am a Noob when it comes to cultivation. This is my first attempt at PF Tek, and I can't get my cakes to pin. Initially, I stuffed up and didn't roll the cakes after dunking them, so I redunked after about 2 weeks and rolled them in vermiculite. I have been misting and fanning them for another week now, and nothing seems to be growing. What could I be doing wrong?

Is there any humidity in that chamber at all? Did you wet your perlite or no?

Nvm I can see some moisture buildup so I’m assuming you have the humidity up.

How long were they dunked for and have you been misting them and fanning properly?

Yes, I wet the perlite, and dunked for 24 hours (they have been dunked twice now. I have a hygrometer in the chamber and it is constantly sitting on 100%. I have calibrated it, but it's only a cheap one, so I'm not overly confident in it's accuracy.

I've been misting 3 -4 time a day, and fanning. I assume I'm doing it correctly, but I may very well may not be. I mist then fan.

Man honestly with these pics I’m baffled as well. Hopefully someone else can make more recommendations. I don’t think the hygrometer would be so messed up that it’s so dry in there that no mushies would show up.

When I have done cakes I used horticultural grade verm that was pretty fine. I don’t think coarse verm would be an issue either though.

Sounds like you’re doing everything properly.

Double the perlite. You need 4-5 inches. I think you need more holes in the sgfc as well. It’s supposed to be 2 inch grid pattern on all sides even top and bottom. Move cakes closer together to create better microclimate. Other than that looks good. Good luck!

Hello again! So, I topped up the perlite, drilled more holes into the chamber and moved the cakes closer together...still nothing. I'm at a loss as to why I can't get these buggers to fruit

Maybe you should try starting a new batch at this point.  If your cakes got
Contaminated somehow they won't fruit.

Ok, maybe that is best. Very frustrating though! Is it worth breaking the cakes apart and scattering them through some bark outside for potential fruiting in the future, or might this be harmful to the ecosystem?

Assuming that they are not contaminated you could try rinsing them and grating them into some substrate in a small mono or shoebox for another chance for some fruits.

Hey again! So, I dunked, grated and put into a shoebox. These are the results. Am I heading in the right direction?
