Moderated Trip
    #26871173 - 08/09/20 08:34 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

I have spent 17 years on an SSRI and recently weaned down to 0mg/day for 3 weeks.  I only recently decided to try shrooms for the first time.  My first "trip" was with a mild strain of Cubensis and at 4g I felt more like what is described as a "Museum dose".  So yesterday I tried 6g of cubensis (Thai lipa yai strain) which should have been much stronger.  I definitely tripped but it didn't feel like it was a particularly crazy-strong experience (no massive ego-death or extremes of persistent visual effects).

I've been off of the SSRI's for several weeks now so any residual should be long gone, but I am wondering if long-term usage of SSRI's will permanently impact the experience of shrooms for me or if it is some other factor I'm not thinking about.  (I don't really know exactly how potent the Thai lipa yai was, so perhaps that is also a factor).

From what I know, coming off an SSRI takes months the least before stuff in the brain normalizes, so you probably have to wait a while longer.

Thanks!  I was wondering about that.  I am feeling much more "stabilized" after weaning off the SSRI's but I'm also certain that there's a bunch of background effects that will take time to re-equilibrate!

I've but limited knowledge on this subject
However i suspect that when stopping SSRI usage one has to wait for the drug to completely leave the system, check what the halflife is for your SSRI.

On top of this when the drug completely leaves the system you would have to wait a considerable amount of time for the target receptor of which psilocin acts upon to return to a stable level.

Using nothing but guessing i would suggest waiting at least a month after the drug completely leaves your system before you'd be able to trip from mushrooms.

The half-life of the SSRI I was on is something on the order 27-33 hours, so I was well past 10 half-lives, but I am certain there are some differences in how my brain moderates the serotonin effects on the particular receptors you mention.  (The hardest part of all of this is just re-adjusting to life without the SSRI and you're right it seems to be taking more time than I thought it would!)

Thanks!
