HELP SETTING UP A TRAY
    #26869967 - 08/08/20 11:57 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Okay guys. So I have 10 half pint substrate jars, all of which are almost fully colonized.
I'm going to be birthing them within a week but i would like to use some of this spawn to try a tray Tek. I have a tray I'll upload pics of, and I have some bulk substrate, so I'd like to know just how much spawn to mix with my substrate, and then how to go about setting this up.

I wouldn’t use that tray straight for putting the bulk mix in.. the myc will eat holes in the aluminum.  You can still use the tray by laying down some plastic from a garbage bag though and that won’t happen.. obviously you can still use it straight but don’t be surprised when some holes appear.

As far ratios go, it’s up to you.. 1:1 would be something like 1 quart of spawn to 1 quart of bulk material.. 1:2 would be 2 quarts of bulk material etc.. for cakes, I’d say do a 1:1

Then find a tub that’s roughly the same length and width as the tray and put it in there with the lid on loosely.  If you only have a bigger tub, you may want to add some wet perlite In the bottom to help keep the chamber’s RH up.  If the tub isn’t much bigger than the tray, the substrate will keep the rh up all by itself (might need a misting here and there if it looks like it’s drying out.)

Or you can skip the tray all together and just make a monotub.. or a mini mono or a mini mini mono.. just put the substrate mix in the bottom of the tub like you would in the tray.. I’d personally use a liner of plastic on the bottom but it’s not required, just works better IMO

Yeah I made the mistake of trying to use aluminum once... a week into fruiting I had holes all over the baking tin
