Anyone have luck locating PCs lately. 1

Trying aquire a 4th PC for some time, every place sold out, and back ordered for months to come, all major retailers, Amazon, nothing to be had except over priced shit on eBay. Any one have any luck recently? Even manufacturers said out of stock until November. I'm pretty resourceful, but hit a dead end.
Also, gotta be careful, lots of scam companies out there.

I see them come up in the used classifieds a lot, but I can never get to them before like 10 other people do. They're sold the instant they go up.

Need one with a gauge , at high altitude, and AA not worth the cost IMO, and don't think Cadco burners can hold the weight, the 941 is 30 lbs dry, lol.
Even AA PC's, unavailable until December, according to their site

I was able to get a 23-quart Presto from RuralKing.com and it was cheaper than most places too.

I didn’t put two and two together during this pandemic but it was a bear to find a PC. I used to have an AA 921 and had to sell it a long time ago before moving to Texas. Man I regret that, picked it up for $70 back then. I was just trying to get a Presto 23qt and can’t find one below $200. I sucked it up on eBay because I need one very soon. I found a vintage 915 in perfect working order for $160 free shipping which is a steal right now. I like the petcock of the older ones, will wait until it breaks before replacing with the weight. I just needed something to do 7 quart jars. I almost went with a new sterilizer but then would need to babysit agar or get a smaller pc. Ah well what can you do. I’ve been jonesing to start again, gotta pay a premium for right now.

Gonna wait, most places hoping for September, not a big deal, just trying to add one or two to the collection. Seems weird,AA, Presto, TFal, etc, been sold out for 3+ months, unsure if it's China related, but just seems strange, especially with canning season approaching. Thanks for the feed back gents, just gonna be patient, not buying crap, not that desperate.
15qt useless to me. Thanks though

All manufacturing has slowed significantly due to restrictions regarding COVID protocols. It’s not like these companies haven’t manufactured any units in months. It’s that they’ve only produced a fraction of what they normally would have AND the demand has skyrocketed. Everyone is trying to create their own doomsday stockpile of canned life all of a sudden.

Thats true as well, but even in May, Presto AA, etc, said September for delivery. Just saying I think imports are messed up. Wonder why there's plenty of dehydrators out there. I think it's metal supply and factories, not so much everyone wants to can, plenty of Mason jars to be had, racks and racks of jars for harvest season. Just seems outta balance. If PCs sold out for months, why not canning jars? See what I'm saying....

Glass is made on projected contracts. Those molds may be ran once a year or less. There's stockpiles of mason jars.
Pressure cookers are probably not made in enormous batches like that. There's only so many glass factories. OI glass makes something like 2/3 of every glass container on the planet. So take for example Maker's Mark whisky. They have to place a glass order a year in advance with an estimate of what they'll need. Because their bottles will only be ran once or twice in a year.

Working retail I can tell you there is major supply issues with most companies. Toilet paper is a great example, they can calculate how much they need to produce so they don’t have excessive inventory to warehouse. Since everyone was staying home they end up using way more tp. Their predictions were thrown way off based on the unbelievable demand due to COVID and simply because people are using a lot more. That’s just in addition to the fact with social distancing production has slowed down like stated before. Also, throw in the fact that some people are stuck at home, working from home, so there’s a ton of home improvement going on and a massive demand especially for hobby merchandise. I can tell you that there’s thousands of items we can’t get in stock because the supplier is just not producing enough to meet the current demand. Not only are people going nuts canning but what do we use a pc for? Sterilization, enough said hehe.

Manufacturing is going to be impacted relative to how many human hands are required to get the product made. Relatively speaking, glass jars require hardly any human hands, as most of the process is automated. Pressure canners, especially larger ones with lots of individual parts, require human hands at many different points along the way.
Production lines are usually fine tuned to be incredibly optimized. Removing just one person from it means a whole new, less optimized process needs to be established. Just gets slower and slower with each person you have to remove.

My local hardware store had a couple last I checked. If anyone is interested I would grab one and ship at buyers expense. I seem to remember them being around $165 for Presto 23's Probably put it a bit over $200 shipped.

Try the nationwide search on OfferUp (not sure if LetGo has it). Just got a 23qt Presto with no lid for $30 on there. Also, thrift stores; I got my original 23qt for $25 at Goodwill.
You can set up RSS on eBay and you'll get an email when there's a listing within your price range.

All the 23qt prestos are overpriced. I was lucky to get one a few months ago for $120 shipped.
Just an hour ago I decided to say fk it and bought an AA 75x electric for $880 shipped. Lots of them available.. pretty big investment for the average grower though, $880 is the cheapest I've seen them around

Yeah all that is left is sterilizers but they are going really fast. I ended up with a pc because I want to mess around with agar and didn’t want to have two machines kicking around right now. Plus I’ve spent a bit just getting equipment and materials together to restart the hobby lol. They’re working on ramping up production, they say by December they will start filling orders again lol.

I called presto. I couldn’t find one back in June when I was wanting one, I ended up calling presto directly wondering if there was a discontinuation we didn’t know about. Apparently on top of extra preppers who are now getting into canning because of COVID-19, the actual manufacturing has been dialed back dramatically due to employee cutbacks in the workplace, also due to COVID-19. If you call presto, you can get an exact date on when they will be revieving their half of their new prestos and the retailers will be receiving their half directly from the manufacturer. This is what I did and I was able to order one from ACE and I had it on my step in 3 days after ordering. You can also call your local ACE, Rural king, Home Depot, etc and ask them when they will be receiving their new shipments as well. I thought I would never find a PC but it is possible, they’re just suprisingly being affected as well

People aren’t walking away from jobs, they’re being laid off. By corporations and their executives who had already received billions in tax cuts and then received billions more. I don’t begrudge someone who got laid off $600 so they can scratch together a semblance of survival for themselves and their family. The executives who are doing the laying off, who still have their jobs, who have retreated to their second or third homes in less populated areas safer from COVID... I might begrudge them $100,000 in new tax loopholes.
And I sure as hell wouldn’t expect anyone to put their own life, nor the lives of their families and communities in danger just to remove all effort from my hobby related shopping. Maybe that’s just me though.

Walmart is hiring like crazy lol. I have mixed feelings on the subject. Yes it’s there to help the people who were laid off, I’m totally for that. At the same time I have people literally trying to get fired so they can collect unemployment. Dead serious I’ve had people beg me to fire them. I’m an asset protection manager, last person you need to be asking that. These people won’t be able to collect however. For businesses to stay open or re-open they have to comply with state and local ordinances. There’s tons of regulations being considered just keeping your business open. I can only imagine in manufacturing they had to greatly reduce the number of people in the building at one time. I have about 20-30 people calling out of work a day it’s the only reason why we’re hiring. Even changed the fact if you miss 4 weeks of work regardless of your position, your current role is not protected. We’ve replaced several managers unfortunately. The businesses need to keep running regardless. They just have to conform to all laws unless they want to go bankrupt or keep their doors closed during this health crisis. If people were more cautious and didn’t do things like go to 4th of July parties or Memorial Day weekend, we would be on the decline.

People are walking away from jobs like mad lol. I am trying to keep my workforce at double capacity and most temps disappear after a couple days. Meanwhile most of the full time employees have been here over 5 years.
Every business in my town has a for hire sign. From manufacturing to restaurants to fast food. The only place I haven't seen looking for people like crazy right now is the airport.
No business I can think of is laying people off.
Plenty of businesses were killed because of covid overreaction but any surviving business is hiring.

jesus christ ppl cant even take a sarcastic fucking joke. the joke was i had to buy a 55 gallon drum of iso. but since ur talkin opinions heres mine. nobody deserves more than what they would get for working in the first place period. hell ive been workin the whole time and have lost hours and a lot of $$ wheres relief for the working man 🤷🏼🤷🏼🤷🏼🤷🏼 there aint none. whoopy 1200$ ppl are getting that every 2 weeks and i get nothing. all that 600$ does is prevent ppl from going back to work cuz they make more on unemployment. so im all for ppl getting exactly what they would make if they were working but the problem is even ppl who only made say 300 a week now get unemployment for that 300 plus 600 wheres the sense in that. and wheres relief for ppl like me who have had hours cut and cant barely get by cuz ive been lucky enough to still have my job but im goin deeper in debt by the week wheres my relief. so i say if ur gnna take care of ppl who aint workin take care of rhe ones who are workin also. i dont want 600$ id be happy with the 270$ im losing every week just by going to work on 30 hrs instead of 40. but i dont qualify for relief cuz they tell me oh u make too much money. well wtf now everyone who aint workin is makin more than me if i was workin full time. i mean come the fuck on

It prevents millions of people from falling into literal poverty and homelessness. We should say fuck those people, and shut down all benefits because some people try to game the system for a few hundred bucks? We also shutting down the stock market because insider trading happens? All major sports because some athletes juice? How about all churches because priests rape children, or all gun production because some people use them for murder? Maybe it’s time to stop allowing people to buy pressure cookers. I’ve heard some people use them for growing illegal substances.
Or maybe we operate systems around the vast majority of people who aren’t the problem, and deal with the shitheads when they inevitably come around.

Maybe if some businesses paid better, employees wouldnt feel like theyre better off milking the system. If youre mad at someone, be mad at the fed for making min wage 7.25/hr and the states who follow suit.
If people were paid better they wouldnt feel the need to milk the system perhaps.
Classic trope though. Instead of being mad at the fed, be mad at your fellow man trying to take advantage of a better existence

I’ll be honest paying a higher wage rarely equates to a more productive worker. We could pay $15, and we’ll some people get $15 up to 19 and they’re still lazy mofos. So why pay so much and get the same quality from paying $12. You have to hire 5-10 people in a few weeks just to find one that has maybe average performance and hiring people costs money. So pay less on the wages. If someone turns out to have a brain and a great work ethic, they get promoted and earn the $15-$19 an hour or hell make a decent salary. It’s what I did, I started at $8.00 an hour and I wasn’t happy with it. So within a year and a half I promoted 3 times and make a nice living wage. The youth today is hopeless. No work ethic these days. I would rather pay $10 an hour and have the option to increase wages for people who earn it. Now when it comes to a CEO or high level management, you typically get what you pay for it. Low level jobs however I’m not on board for paying these insane wages when 80% of the people I see looking for jobs are garbage.

If you want to justify paying people shit wages that's fine with me.
No skin off my back or mushrooms out of my tubs. Just dont complain when workers take advantage of a system that allots them more.
I started my own business cause I was tired of working for people with half my IQ and earning a shit wage while doing it.
Part of the issue with min wage being so low is it allows corps. to under pay for even skilled labor.
I worked at the largest research facility in the south doing skilled analytics. I worked 5am to 5pm m-f and had school tuesdays and thursdays from 530pm-7. I made $11 an hour and thought it was good pay because texas min wage is 7.25
Even after all the overtime I still only equated to 16-17/hr for skilled lab work. Big business takes advantage of such a low min wage big time.

I never complained about people using the system lol. Only thing I said I had people trying to get me to fire them. Heck I just cut their hours, they’ll have to quit before I fire them lol. Skilled labor gets rewarded with promotions at least where I work. 9/10 people are pure lazy, can’t even walk at a snails pace. Each industry is different, retail does not need to pay $15 an hour for a sales associate. Sure there is the desirability and you can hire more people until you find the one you want. But if they’re making that much they will be hired with benefits and every time you fire them you paid the benefits up front. It’s expensive. Like I tell my associates asking to make more money, work hard, learn, apply for promotions. It’s really simple.

not everyone is worth an equal amount. its not a matter of trusting corporations. most jobs are in small business anyway anyone can flip a burger or answer a phone or shuffle papers. not everyone can engineer a bridge or build a build a house or machine parts to total perfection so they can go on fighter jets or the new moon lander so its a matter of what can a person do that makes them worth x amount of $. its just like supply n demand. prices rise when there is more of a demand oil is tbe best example. so if everyone is an engineer they aint worth as much as they would b if there were only x amount of them. if u go putting in insanely high minimum wages it hurts mid level workers like myself more than anyone. why would a guy go carry bricks and roof houses n shit in the summer sun for 16$ an hour when he can go flip burgers for 15. or the ppl like me who have a skilled trade. most ppl who start in my line of work never start even at the best paying places for more than 15$ an hour so where is the motivation for younger ppl to get into the skilled industrial trades?? you think shits made overseas now wait 20 yrs when ppl like me are gone. nobodys gnna be there to do the job so the job will be sent elsewhere.

Whats interesting to me is little old Mexican ladies work and do a awesome job at easy entry level work for 9-12 an hour. But a temp for 10/hr cant hack it. Gets out worked by a grandma. And quits after two days.
So paying more absolutely doesn't fix shit. I have plenty of temps I could use to make a compelling argument to Congress that minimum wage at 7.25/hr is simply too high. They need any job they can get. I'm just here to work man. The job is fucking stupid like taping boxes closed all day. Can't hack it. Want to get paid more. Sorry I only have a ridiculous easy childs job, but it's here and its paying 10/hr and they 90% of the time bitch out. This is a job people with intellectual disability can handle mind you.
Oh yes hospitality industry is laying people off. No shit because they had their balls cut off by the government so they can't operate at anything past 25% capacity.

So there ya go, indisputable proof that paying people more absolutely fixes everything.

I would settle for running another Presto 23 but they have been impossible to obtain as well.

Aaaand they’re sold out lol. It be nice to have a new PC but I’ll be happy with my vintage AA. It’s a no7 but it has the safety valve, so I ordered new one, vent pipe and weight, new gauge, pins and bolts, knobs. Got lots of pics of the seal and it looks mint. It’s an aa, it should work forever. Just run some cycles with water/vinegar clean out some residue, polish it up, classic piece of furniture. Just couldn’t justify $400 on eBay for a 15.5 quart new/used. Picked this one up $150 which is steep for an older one but I wanted an aa. Cheaper than a new presto.
I’m going to preorder another 915 canner for $259 which will be my Christmas present lol.

I found out a way to get AA pressure cookers right now. If you google “all American pressure cooker parts” it will bring a list of websites you can buy replacement parts. Go to the first website in the list and it brings you to parts for AA. Scroll down a little bit and there is a choice to purchase the top or bottom parts for your AA pc. They have tops with all necessary parts and bottoms with all necessary parts. It may require some assembly but you can get your much needed PC! I’m trying it, I order the 930 top and bottom portion with all necessary parts. It was a little bit less than quoted price for one put together. Time to make 21 jars at a time with my 915 running too!

I just ordered a Presto 23qt for pick up from an Ace Hardware that's an hour drive away for me 10 minutes ago. Everything else in a close radius was gone or on back order.
I second looking around in thrift stores as well! I went to one yesterday that had a lot of different ones but not the one I personally wanted.

I just came here to say there's a whole bunch of callous, uncompassionate, stingy, greedy fuckers posting in this thread.
Your lack of compassion hurts you more than it hurts others. Open up into generosity and you will not regret it. On a personal level, on a societal level. It's the same.

I couldn't find any local or on Amazon.
I started searching for liters instead of quarts and found Hawkins brand stuff in stock on Walmart website
22liter Hawkings $122 delivered. Search on Walmart for HA22L and it should come up.

I'm glad I'm in a position where I can be generous.

As the OP, all set, weird, even though Amazon says sold out, I ordered ( pre-ordered), but shipped in 3 days. Just order, won't be charged until shipped. Arrived. Still says sold out, but I got 2

Scored a free brand new one yesterday from a parking lot in and abandoned shopping cart full of empty trash boxes.

I ended up finding my 23qt Presto on Craigslist. Set up a saved search and have it email you when it hits a match (you have to have an account). I've seen a few come up on there since.
I spoke with a nice lady at Presto and she said they were backordered with the manufacturer. They were expecting them to come into the warehouses in August and back onto their site a few months afterwards.
Being the optimist I am, I'd like to think the whole country has picked up the hobby and we'll be seeing a mass enlightenment any day now. Either that or they all went MS to grain, got contam, and there's going to be rioting in the streets...
