In pain from having mushrooms
    #26869479 - 08/08/20 04:32 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

A month ago I ate some dried psilocybin subaeruginosa that I picked this year and felt like I had a bad reaction to them, my body started to ache my legs were weak and my throat felt like it was restricted almost as if I was being choked, I also vomited almost 3 hours after having them and vomited a lot after this, at this point I felt as if it might have been something wrong that they weren’t subs.
I turned out okay after this just really annoying that I had this kind of reaction. The only problem is my friend who has now had some these mushrooms (not sure from same batch or not since I picked a whole bunch from different locations) and has reported the same thing with some numbness and pins and needles in his hand but no vomiting.

Does anyone have experience on what the possible cause of this could be?

One of my ideas was maybe it could be ive accidentally picked a mushroom that had some weed poison on it since this is kinda common but usually I choose to avoid them unless I didn’t check properly

One of my other ideas is maybe it’s something to do with the phenomenon wood lovers paralysis  that I don’t know much about

And my last idea might be on the way I stored them, I stored them dry in glass jars with a moisture absorber desiccant which I believe is sealed and doesn’t leak any harmful chemicals but maybe I’m unaware that it does

Thanks would appreciate any help

Pesticide sprays, misidentification, genetic mutations... it's going to be pretty hard to narrow down a culprit though I'm not familiar with the wood-lover's paralysis.

Here are some pictures although I don’t think this can narrow down the culprit since they are dried up

Yeah, hard to tell when they’re darkened & dried.  How sure are you that you didn’t pick any spoiled or contaminated fungi -or- look alikes/other species hidden in the clutter wherever you found the patch of subs?

You feeling okay today?

I’m feeling fine this was a month ago but my friend had them tonight and is feeling how I did,
I’m pretty confident in my ability to tell the difference between lookalikes but I do understand it could be very easier to stuff a couple up when you’re picking so many.
My biggest worry is I won’t be able to tell which ones are bad and why they are and I don’t want to throw away all the work I did to collect them this season

Some aches in the body and legs feeling weak isn't too out of the ordinary  .

I've had mushrooms make my legs very weak/wobbly during the initial part of the trip several times over the years.

I've also felt some aches/tension in my muscles before during the initial part of the trip, what I've felt feels like vasoconstriction to me.

I've also felt some numbness/pins & needles before from mushrooms (and LSD). I've always assumed it was because of vasoconstriction...Tho there has been about two times in particular that I had some numbness/tingling in parts of my face that felt different from the usual feels of vasoconstriction (from mushrooms).

Puking is also not out of the ordinary...I haven't experienced much nausea or stomach load from mushrooms but I know some folks are much more sensitive to such things.

I've also felt my lungs feeling a bit "tighter" or restricted more than usual a few times.

These unpleasant aspects could very well be caused by something other than the active components of the mushrooms (contaminated with some mold/some sort of natural "toxin", or with pesticides, etc etc etc)...and/or it could be something related to what ever the cause of wood-lover paralysis is....but at the same time these aspects aren't necessarily uncommon or unheard of in regards to the potential "body load" that mushrooms can catalyze.

In general, mushrooms tend to make me feel pretty un-well for the first 90 minutes or so. Almost as if I've been "poisoned" . My body can sometimes feel a bit achey and tight.

Hard tellin' ....but if these particular mushrooms you're talking about are giving you and your friends a nasty body load and other unpleasant feels that none of you typically experience from other mushrooms that you've ate before in the past, then yea something is probably up with them.

There's bugger all lookalikes in the area mate, subs are very distinctive.

Tingling face and extremities, and nausea, is very common. It's also common for people to freak out and think they might've eaten poison mushrooms when experiencing these things. Ironic really.

Making tea rather than eating the shrooms can significantly reduce nausea, eating chilli and chocolate and drinking coffee can reduce vasoconstriction and tingles as well. Easy fix.

OP what’s your history with psychedelics, and specifically with this mushroom? Have you picked this mushroom in previous years, consumed, and had experiences without the feelings that you’re  describing?

I’m leaning more towards the idea of having a few lookalikes mixed in the batch. Call me crazy, but contrary to the other posters in this thread, I don’t think these are normal things to occur when ingesting shrooms lol. Unless these are species specific reactions ( I have no experience with this species)

I agree this doesn’t sound normal. And they look horrible. And why would you pick mushrooms from somewhere that gets sprayed with chemicals and other nasty shit?

Admittedly, I have no experience with subs, but if that is how they make you feel, I think I’d rather do without!

Take care dude, be careful what you ingest.

Yes these are woodlovers, they can even cause complete temporary paralysis even. Not cubes.

There's no real wild lookalikes, they are very distinct.

They aren't cubes, they don't look the same. Normally they are found in forests and woody sandy soil. Australia is not a toxic wasteland with chemicals everywhere. Lol.

It sounds harsh that these mushies can have mildly unpleasant side effects, but they really are kick ass Ed. Many people prefer them because of their extreme potency.

To be fair, I have also heard really good things about them

I’m lucky too that I have access to Liberty Caps. But my fields have been bare for the last three years. It’s really weird. They’re up on the moors, and not a lot of people go up there. I started thinking all sorts of conspiracy things, like the farmers had all been told to spray fungicide. But there are still loads of other mushrooms around, so maybe the changing climate. Who knows, over 30 years of plenty, then nothing?

Take care

Maybe the fruiting spot has moved and you just haven't found them again Ed?

When I lived in the UK I used to go in the Valleys and clean up in the season. Messy train rides on the way back.  :awesome:

I dunno brother, something has changed. Considering getting up there really early to see if that helps. But in years of picking, it has always been late afternoon or evening, and I’ve always had success.

Maybe the mushrooms know I grow my own so are hiding themselves away for more deserving pickers :awesome:

And I always walk to my spots (2 to 3 hour walk usually). Have been intercepted once or twice by angry farmers who’ve insisted I empty my carrier bag before leaving

Yes this is the first time I’ve ever felt this way from having these mushrooms, I’ve had the same mushrooms last year I think 4 different times and had them around 5 times this year and only now have I got these reactions same with my friend, and I don’t think it’s from me just freaking out and thinking about it because I felt like this even after the trip had really concluded only felt better after sleep, I know it’s common to feel sick and I’ve experienced this before many of times but this time was much different felt a lot more painful

Myself I'd have to say just fuck 'em and move on.  The reports of toxic sort of effects cluster around certain species as I'm sure you well know.

But lacking any way to differentiate good from bad (been there, had paralysis from Ps. cyanescens that scared me half to death once) it's best to just stay away and pursue some other avenue - like cultivation.  :cookiemonster:
