Anyone here drink vinegar?
    #26868290 - 08/07/20 12:41 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

In the fasting community there are lots of people who drink vinegar, but I never hopped on that bandwagon, then in a book I read earlier this week it says this about vinegar

Quote:

The Wonders of Vinegar

The word vinegar originates from the Latin words vinum acer, meaning sour wine. Wine left undisturbed, eventually turns into vinegar (acetic acid). Ancient peoples quickly discovered vinegar's versatility. Vinegar is still in widespread use as a cleaning substance. Traditional healers exploited the antimicrobial properties of vinegar in a time before antibiotics by using it to clean wounds. Unfiltered vinegar contains "mother", which consists of the protein, enzymes, and bacteria used to make it.

Vinegar has long been used to preserve food by pickling. As a beverage, the tangy, sour taste of vinegar never gained much popularity, although Cleopatra was famously rumored to drink vinegar in which pearls had been dissolved. However, vinegar still retains fans as a condiment for french fries, a component in dressing (balsamic vinegar) and in making sushi rice (rice vinegar)

Diluted Vinegar is a traditional tonic for weight loss. Mention of this folk remedy is found as far back as 1825. British poet Lord Byron popularized vinegar as a weight-loss tonic and would go for days eating biscuits and potatoes soaked in vinegar. other ways to use vinegar are to ingest several teaspoons of it prior to meals, or to drink it diluted in water at bedtime. Apple cider vinegar seems to have gained a particular following, as it contains both vinegar (acetic acid) as well as the pectins from the apple cider (a type of soluble fiber).

There are no long-term data on the use of vinegar for weight loss. However, smaller short-term human studies suggest that vinegar may help reduce insulin resistance. Two teaspoons of vinegar taken with a high-carbohydrate meal lowers blood sugar and insulin by as much as 34 percent, and taking it just before the meal was more effective than taking it five hours before meals. The addition of vinegar for sushi rice lowered the glycemic index of white rice by almost 40 percent. Addition of pickled vegetables and fermented soybeans (natto) also significantly lowered the glycemic index of the rice. In a similar manner, rice with the substitution of pickled cucumber for fresh showed a decrease in its glycemic index by 35 percent.

Potatoes, served cold and dressed with vinegar as a salad, showed considerably lower glycemic index than regular potatoes. The cold storage may favour the development of resistant starch, and the vinegar adds to the benefits. Both glycemic and insulin index were reduced by 43 percent and 31 percent respectively. The total amount of carbohydrate is the same in all cases. Vinegar does not displace the carbohydrate, but actually seems to exert a protective effect on the serum insulin response.

Type 2 diabetics drinking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar diluted in water at bedtime reduced their fasting morning blood sugars. Higher doses of vinegar seem to increase satiety, resulting in slightly lower caloric intake throughout the rest of the day(approximately 200 to 275 calories less). This effect was also noted for peanut products. Interestingly, peanuts also resulted in a reduction of glycemic response by 55 percent.

It's not known how acetic acid produces these beneficial effects. The acid may interfere with the digestion of starches by inhibiting salivary amylase. Vinegar may also reduce the speed of gastric emptying. The data is conflicting, with at least one study showing a 31 percent reduction in glucose response with no significant delayed gastric emptying.

The use of oil and vinegar dressing is associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease. The benefit was originally attributed to the effect of dietary alpha linolenic acid. However, Dr. F. Hu of Harvard University points out the mayonnaise, containing similar amounts of alpha lenolenic acid, does not appear to provide nearly the same cardiac protection. Perhaps the difference here is the consumption of vinegar. While far from conclusive, it is certainly an interesting hypothesis. Just dont expect rapid weight loss with the use of vinegar. Even its proponents claim only a mild decrease in weight.

I took 2 tablespoons vinegar on wednesday night before bed, Thursday before dinner and before bed and today my fasting blood sugar was at 4.7, in june I took my fasting blood sugar and its usually between 5-6, but the problem is I didnt get home today till 11am, so it was like 15 hours fasted, you are supposed to take it at 8 hours fasted, so I still have a little bit of experimenting to do

oh yeah, and all the fasting/vinegar people drink braggs with mother, the only brand that had mother at my store was one called nonna pia, and it was $6 for a bottle half the size of braggs, hopefully when I need more I will go to a different grocery store and they will have braggs

I won't drink raw apple vinegar anymore because it tastes nasty but do I like vinegar in general.

Vinegar based slaws are great and a strong kombucha as well.

I don't drink it straight but I do like vinegar. Especially malt vinegar on fries, and balsamic or red wine vinegar on salads.

Quality Balsamic vinegar is the shit

A combination that blew my mind is vanilla icecream with Balsamic. You need the expensive syrupy good stuff though

I used to like vinegar samwiches made from the pickled onion juice when I was a kid. My gran caught me and said you'll thin your blood.
Years later I ended up on Warfarin to treat blood clots. Maybe I shoulda just kept munchin the vinegar sarnies.

I found a jar of pickled red cabbage when I was out litter picking today. Fuckin amazes me that people will pick up bags of food from the local food bank and toss half of it. :nonono:

Yeah the syrupy stuff is a completely different world than the cheap kind. Don’t think I would try it on ice cream though.

Talking of onions. Which we weren't...but onions and vinegar seem to be irreconcilably linked in my mind. A woman that worked in the local shop once said to me that she had never bought an onion after I asked her how much she wanted for the single onion that was left on the shelf. A woman that has two kids has never bought an onion? WT ever living F is this woman feeding her children?

Probably the same sort of fuk that takes a food bank parcel and dumps half of it in the bushes.

Drinking vinegar can lower the pH of your stomach leading to erosion of the esophagus and acid reflux.  Furthermore, it will over long periods of time remove the enamel from your teeth leading to tooth decay and loss.  Although I love me some Balsamic and some good aple cider on real fish and chips. It's great.  Everything in moderation.

I was recently diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus. Not sure if my vinegar sarnie habit would have had much to do with it. I'm not sure how you would know when you've stepped over the "moderation" mark when eating pickles?

Vinegar on food is good, but I don't think I could handle drinking it.

I used to take a shot of vinegar right after I would smoke some weed back in the day, because there was a rumor that vinegar took the anxiousness and paranoia away from being too high
Yall remember that rumor? people was doing whatever they could to take the paranoia away from the experience. I think the weed was too strong and people finally recognized (and realized) that weed is a powerful psychedelic

I throw pickled onions at most sandwiches I make and I like to have a very small sip or two of the pickling vinegar. But I like the taste, no other reason

Drinking vinegar is useless. You have to butt chug it if you really want to get those toxins out.

I dont know about the reflux, but I take the vinegar as a shot, as opposed to diluting in water, I figure if its in my sipping water, its constantly touching my teeth for prolonged periods of time, but taken as a shot it barly touches my teeth unless I fuck the shot up

Sorry I haven't read the thread-

Just want to say if anyone who does or is considering drinking vinegar, be careful if you consume Kratom.

Of course everyone is different, but between not eating regularly, lots of veggies, ACV every am, and kratom, it took me awhile to figure out that is way too much acid(never too much acid :crazy2:)..
It's been over 2 months since cutting out the ACV and my stomach lining is still fucked- if I don't eat on time, often enough, I still compulsively vomit which doesn't end once my belly is empty- dry heaves suck. Can't brush my tongue either without triggering my gag reflex.

Not to scare anyone at all, I believe in the health and healing benefits of especially ACV, but I know much of the forum eats kratom and it took me a bit to figure out it was a combination of acidic foods- even if they do correct your PH, ultimately.
