SAB Ambient Pressure Question 1

Hello there Everyone
Long time fan and lurker but I've recently been feeling confident enough to maybe get input.
I know that for a SAB, It should literally have still air in an equal pressure inside and out, and that has been working relatively well for me.
EDIT: It's a bad idea lol don't try itโ๐ผ"if it ain't broke don't fix it"๐
My question is whether utilizing a modified exhaust fan I already have in my room may further improve my technique? In theory, by creating negative pressure outside of the SAB, this should theoretically pevent contaminates from flowing in to the work area. (The possibility or air movement is what bothers me)
Would anyone have input or prior experience with anything of the sort. I understand it's best to use proven techniques, but I am always one to try and improve.
Thank you so much everyone, much love!
Pics of my setup included.

Interesting idea, I've never seen anyone attempt that.
What helped me a ton with turbulent air causing contams was increasing the arm holes from six inches to eight or nine. That greatly reduced the "piston effect" and certain types of mold stopped appearing altogether.

interesting idea.
If you wanna test how the air flows, get some incense and burn them near the SAB while your vent fan is running. U should see how the air movements in action that way.

Thank you for the suggestion, I was thinking about trying that. And so I just did ๐.
When the stick is inside I can tell the air is still but I can smell the incense coming out, then I placed it by my arm holes and there is pressure coming out of the SAB.
I imagine I would only have a finite time to work this way before the negative pressure becomes too great inside the SAB and sucks air in? Maybe, maybe not ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
I guess I will try some petris and see how it goes.
Thank you everyone! I love this community ๐

no that would be a disaster if u want a flow hood buy or build one otherwise use a STILL AIR box not a pretend flow hood box/contamination station. the sab works for a reason as you have seen first hand. so why ruin a good thing. if you want so badly to build something try a bird house๐คท๐ผ

Ok so this brings up an interesting point as I also work in a SAB.
I have this ceiling exhaust fan in the house I live in, itโs strong. Itโs so strong it will pull doors closed. It is in the hallway outside of my room where I do all of my sterile tek. It creates a very strong cross breeze when the doors/windows are open. I wonder if this is a strong enough air current to create enough negative pressure that nothing could enter the SAB with the windows closed but leaving my door open.

Itโs obviously not but itโs interesting to think about. Glassblowers use exhaust hoods to suck out particulate glass and silica in the air. Obviously the flow hood is the best option or just leave it as it. If it ainโt broke donโt fix it

That is a very powerful airflow, it may be too much? Idk much about fluid dynamics ๐

Haha, true. I guess I'll just leave it off when working. The original SAB has worked in the past so no point in fixing something that ain't broken.
I was just curious ๐
I use that fan to smoke in my room without bothering others ๐
Thanks for the input โ๐ผ

when ur working in a sab box all fans, hvac should be off at least a hlf hour prior to working and all windows closed

There is no way to create a pressure difference between your room and the box, that is not immediately equalized across the gaping holes you use to put your arms in. File in "physically impossible" and think of it no more.

I personally think any air movement is a bad idea, so deliberately making air flow into your room because you are using an exhaust fan would be a bad idea in my mind. I shut my computer down and anything that may induce air currents into the room when I'm doing SAB work.
