    #26868326 - 08/07/20 01:05 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

this clump was found on the ground in a mixed forest in NE Wisconsin
the biggest cap is 5 cm across- there is nothing to see under the cap
stipe is thick, soft with ridges

I think it is M corium but not sure enough to taste it

Looks more like a parasatized Bolete to me.  Try cross-sectioning on eof the fruits.

It's a parasatized Bolete. Hypomyces are parasites that attack mushrooms, and might be what is attacking this one.  Maybe someone who knows more about Hypomyces will comment.

Hypomyces for sure.
mycenastrum corium isn't going to have a defined stalk, but more a elongated puffball look. You can clearly see cap folds and remnants of a pore surface in your cross section. The general appearance just doesn't match mycenastrum corium either. As to what species is being host to said parasite is beyond me but its definately hypomyces
