So I started working out, sore as shit. Post workout regiments? * 1
    #26867900 - 08/07/20 08:48 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

So I got a gym membership, trying to get my weight/strength back, maby help with me mentally as well. So I worked out pretty hard Tuesday, and I was still sore last night. I was going to go work out again last night (every other day,) but had to drive somewhere but its like, am I just going to be sore everyday? I have to work and stuff, does the level of how sore you are eventually subside some after you get back into shape?

I still feel it some today, and am going to go tonight and keep this up but damn man. Also, I’m not really sure how I feel about pre workout stuff but what do you guys use for post workout? I figure there’s something better then simply using whey protein but I’m not sure.

When you first start working out (or you return after a long break) and you go hard, the DOMS can be unbearable the next day. As your body adapts it normalizes and any post-workout soreness you experience becomes relative to the intensity of the workout and your overall fitness.

When gyms around me finally open up and I go back, I imagine I'll feel like I've been hit by a plane after my first workout (and I've been working out, on average, 4 days a week for years). But the gyms have been closed here for months so all of my training has been body weight only.

The most important thinks for regulating DOMS:

- Eat enough protein, fats and carbs
- I like a high carb meal (oatmeal) post workout
- Get enough sleep
- Keep at it, the body will adapt.

I made some weed greek yogurt that was so-so, froze the whey and used it in protein shakes for pre and post workout. It was good I made almond milk banana chai smoothies with weed whey thrown in for extra protein.

good stuff. Honestly since the pandemic weed has been my pre, post, and present workout enhancer - more so smokeless forms of it.

Nah you're not gonna be sore everyday forever and your body will adjust, swearsies. If you want to keep making progress, yes you're gonna have to push yourself and you're going to have period of intermittent soreness, but you will get used to it, I promise. And you don't have to go super hard all the time - a sustained approach is key imo. I think exercising is still beneficial even if it's ind of low key, as long as your heart is pumping a bit and your body is moving you're doing good. And that will absolutely help you out mentally. Just stick with it. Give it a month.

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable in a gym at this point in time and just stay home and exercise, but stay safe and keep at it. You will only be glad that you did.

Supplements probably won't work.

Try foam rolling and stretching.  A warm bath can also help a bit.

It will improve a 1000% once you get a bit of a regular workout going

Personally i like to take a walk after working out to loosen up my back

When you take a long break from the gym then start working out again, you really have to do easy, light exercises or you're gonna wreck yer body. Its happened to me time and time again when I take a long break from weight-lifting.

In essence, you have to acclimate your body back into working-out again. Best advice is just to take it easy until your body recovers.

Right after the workout, eat a readily available complete protein in combination with a complex starch. It can be as simple as yoghurt with muesli.

The starch provides steady glucose which takes away incentive to burn the protein as fuel, the glucose will prioritize as a fuel source, so the net result will be optimizing utilization of that protein for repair and growth.

All these answers are exactly what I needed. I haven’t worked out in a few years, so was thinking I’ll go hard to begin with and seems like that was the wrong move. I’m going to try to state consistent, but not beat myself up. My main priority is eating enough, I might need to do a rough calorie count to make sure I’m actually eating enough.

Thanks for the tips my guys. You always come through. And Asante, I did not know this. Seems logical after you said it though. I’m really trying to stay away from eating meat, so I’m going to experiment with different proteins. I need try different stuff out, it’s tough trying to turn vegetarian as I’m trying to gain weight.

Exercise vanity out of your life. Problem solved.

20-30 minutes in the hot tub is my way of avoiding being sore the next day, but YMMV

Cryotherapy chairs if your gym has them helps, but DOMs sucks at first, and never really goes away (legs) but you get used to it and it last a shorter period of itme.

Yes, although a quick absorbing sugar is better post work out as you need a glycemic spike to transport amino acids into cells.

I have a home gym that I've been putting together on and off for weeks. Now that The Rona finally took ma jerb, I'll have plenty of time to finish it and use it.

I'm missing 14 bushings, but I bought a nylon rod on Amazon that I'm going to use to make replacements. The manufacturer's customer service is shut down because The Rona as well, or I would have just called them and had them send them to me.

Anyway, I figure I got about 6 months of retirement to look for before I go back to work. What can an average male accomplish in 6 months of pumping concrete encased in plastic? How buff should I expect to be?

With proper diet and nutritional timing(join a body builders board they alll sorts of newbie plans including food intake).

If you dont get an injury expect total transformation of body.  I went from 225 all fat to 180 and 15% fat in 6 months, people who hadn't seen me in a while where shocked how ripped I was.  Put on about 40lbs of muscle (it goes fast at first than plateaus) plus all the fat lost, I felt great.

I added a few adjustable dumbells and weights to my home collection during the lockdown. I had a pretty decent schedule going.

Been going to the gym for the first time since March this last week. Still had my results in the Strong app.

Most exercises I was actually stronger now than when everything closed for the lockdown. Home fitness does seem to work

For me starting to note down my results was a gamechanger

I also recommend watching Ath-leans youtube channel, especially the one about "why 12 reps are killing your gains"

Calories. Don’t bother counting, says David well sculpted weight trainer. He said the ratio of fats to carbs to protein what you need worry about.

As I understand, you feed yourself to give organs nutrients to make clean blood. You work out and hydrate self to get that blood to muscles. Your organs only can hold so much of blood cycling but muscles can hold store the built blood.

You workout, you tear muscles. That blood will get back to blood stream And flush out through kidneys to bladder if not use high glycemic carb and protein afterwards to take that highly nutrient rich blood and pack back to torn muscle as is good blood.

Think the muscles as rubber bands. As pull rubber band tight to about breaking you see holes in band as stretching to tear. The idea is to use blood to patch and build those tears which makes more density to rubberband.

I’m 6’5” 222lbs.  Eating 10g fat 30g protein and forty grams carbs. Now seeing greater results to workout routine. Mostly been thin. Just recently been asking trainer advice. He weighs his food to hit target number of protein fats and carbs. I do too!  Eating every three to three and half hours. Drinking plenty water.

DO ASK THOSE AT THE GYM!  people there who workout and are in good health will share kind words of well being!  I talk to everyone for it is a place where to make all feel very welcomed to be.  ASK questions. Don’t get discouraged if one not too kind or doesn’t provide good feedback. Few ever not speak kindly back. As with question best to understand question asked as relevant to yourself so the one can answer.

Ive been to gyms on and off for years. Now staying on an on for helps feel well, healthy as if making use of all the food I eat, not making use of all the energy we consume.  One thing that upset me is the trainers will watch you wear yourself out and let you stay thin with out asking of goals and giving tips to such. Took me years and still learning as go, but I ask them!  They sit behind computer, but hey will answer!

Your diet will have to change for results. You’ll be amazed and feel great for yourself as you do follow suit to what is needed to get towards results you desire.  Really, do check nutrition labels. A basic ham sandwich with mustard and mayaonaise is not beneficial to muscle growth. Proportions are wrong. Refined sugars don’t bother. Chicken and rice and greens. Chicken and rice and greens.

Fitness Trainer, David, built fellow, says, ‘people have a weird romance to food.’  I see how he says that.

Lots to learn as go and grow in life. Learning of healthy body, mind and soul of the best to seek for the clues to answers and applicability are of the funnest venture, because the direct relate and have instant karma like effects to you!

Oh! And don’t follow just one workout routine. Use online routines and different ones. Mixes it up.  I pick one muscle area to concentrate on. Arms. Legs. Shoulders. Chest. Stomach. And do fifteen minutes a cardio and fifteen minutes after. Work up a sweat and keep it going through. Works for me.  Find what works for you

Most importantly, be kind, friendly and courteous to those near you. And BREATHE!!!!

Hip, hip... WhoRAy!!!

Thanks for all the help guys, and thanks for this descriptive answer. I appreciate you putting the effort into your comment man. What do you use for the “high glycemic carb and proteins?” Ive had a couple people say this already so it must be pretty important. I made an effort today to eat more than usual.
