All veils tearing on tiny mushrooms 1

Hi, I recently did my first grow - GT on rye grain, spawned on coir+verm. Everything looks and smells very healthy and I'm trying to follow best practices, but the veils on my mushrooms are tearing incredibly early.
Basically as soon as any of the mushrooms grows to 1.5 - 2.5cm tall (less than an inch!) and the cap starts opening up just a little bit, the veil tears. I let the mushrooms grow a bit longer so that the cap looked more open and harvested them, even though even the biggest mushrooms seemed tiny

Here's my questions - What could I be doing wrong? Anything I could try doing differently? - In his case, what's the best time to harvest them? If I only waited for the veil to tear, I'd be harvesting mushrooms barely bigger than pins. Wait for the cap to open? Wait for the gills to turn dark?
I have a couple more shoeboxes coming and I don't know what I can do better, apart from maybe switching strains.
Details of my grow
GT on rye grain, fully colonized, spawned to bulk coir+verm (650g brick of coir, 2 quarts of verm). I spawned to one big unmodified tub and two small (~20 cm across) containers. The tub ended up contaminating and when I got sidepins in the small containers I took out the mycelium and moved it to another tub, filled with 2 inches of wet perlite, put the "cakes" on some foil. The temperature has been a steady-ish 23-25 degrees C (73-75 F), I have been misting and fanning the tub multiple times a day, kept the lid cracked a bit and kept track of the humidity using an electronic gizmo, recently mostly by looking at the surface of the cakes and the tub walls.

Most of the time its just genetics. Environment probably also played a role too in your case because a lot of things happened and you had to move out your shoeboxes into fruiting chambers and all kinds of things. Too much water is known to lead to small fruits too.
Just keep growing bruv. Follow SFF shoebox factory tek (search), you dont get side pins if you follow how she does it. Since you had tubs that contaminated you may look into agar and sterile tek for future grows.
Finally, if anyone of your shoeboxes give you nice fruits in clusters you can clone it on agar. Basically agar may open a lot of doors for you to experiment more and learn more and have better control over your grows.

Some mushrooms are tiny. They still work though! Plus small ones dry quicker and don't take up so much space

Forgot to answer your second question. Usually we harvest when the veil start tearing or shortly after that. Dont wait much longer or you will have a spore mess.

I’m facing a similar issue currently. I’m running the same growing medium, same fruiting chamber, and my current grow looks similar to yours. I used to think environment played a big role (and it probably does) but now I’m thinking it definitely has more to do with genetics, as all of my grows were multispore
Over watering may play a part in it, but this isn’t my first rodeo and I’m fairly certain that I’ve kept moisture levels *fairly* consistent. Again, I’m not a scientist being Uber thorough about it, but I’ve done this multiple times and this is the first time I’ve come across mini fruits lol.

overeating and genetics. My mushrooms grow pretty tall when I use dryer sub and most when it changes shades.
