Unknown bluing mushrooms from NW Pennsylvania

Habitat: On top of a hill, in a mildly wooded area. Growing directly on a bed of dead deciduous leaves/branches
Gills: Light brown gills, attached at stem and edge of cap (as shown)
Stem: 2.5 in. Hollow grey/blue fibrous stem with a few yellow/brown fibers inside. Stem bruises dark blue after a couple minutes.
Cap: Diameter approx. 1 inch, light brown with a darker spot on top. Dark (almost black) ring around edge. Cap has some slight bluing as well.
Spore print color: Hasn't dropped many yet, looking definitely dark. Possibly purple or brown
Bruising: The nicest blue I've seen on any wild one so far.
Other information: Scent-smells like fungus. Nothing too pronounced, almost like chlorine but not.

Are we sure these aren't p. caerulipes? They resemble the bluefoot a bit more than ovoids to me, but I'm a novice at this. Also I think I'm too late for the spores... there were barely any left, but I'm fairly certain it's a dark purple/brown.

These are definitely P. caerulipes. Nice finds! The veil remnants on young caps are diagnostic. You must've been lucky and got some of the Isaias rainfall. My area got completely blue-balled. Still dry as hell!

You know I thought that they didn't quite look like ovoids but, P. caerulipes is so rare that I failed to mention that it could be that as well.
Are the two related? Because they look so similar in appearance.

I only know the two are related in that they belong to the same genus. As far as clades and genealogy are concerned, I have no clue how closely-related they are. I think P. quebecensis is more similar in appearance/season to caerulipes than caerulipes is to ovoideocystidiata.
OP you have the first reported caerulipes find of the year, feel free to kick off the 2020 official thread!

This is probably Psilocybe cearulipes based on size and location

Damn, you beat me to the chase this year. I'm definitely going to look for these on the next rainfall. It seems like they often grow on slopes and hills in the woods. I know you have experience with these mushrooms Tak, have you noticed this too?

I agree with P. caerulipes. Doesn't look like ovoid to me. Nice find.
My advice is to take spore prints and share on marketplace

Great find! I've been searching my usual spots for caerulipes with no luck here in Warren county PA. Been dry. I expect we'll have a flush this week if we get rain today.
