What water to use when cultivating?

Could not find any solid resources using the search engine.
Has anyone done the work to see what water is best and when to use it? It seems like its up to personal preference, but recently I encountered a thread where someone narrowed down a tub going bad to using "bad" well water in their substrate.
Tap water, spring water, distilled water, reverse osmosis water, filtered water, well water. What are the differences when it comes to mushroom cultivation?
Does anything in the water survive past a PC cycle? Pasteurization?

I use tap water for everything. Grains, bulk sub, LC and agar. Lately I've been hydrating coir with warm tap water (no boil). Might be different where you live. Not sure how "bad" your water source would have to be to ruin a grow.

obviously ur not gnna go suck up water from a stagnate pond or puddle somewhere that has dead animals and garbage in it. but then again with some ppl here thats just fine cuz u can always just use peroxide to fix itπππππππ but seriously if its good enough for you to drink then its more than good enuff for your mushrooms. i use tap water all day long and i wont drink our tap water even. its not really an issue. clean spawn is the key thing you need for a good grow.

I would only use distilled for making spore syringes.

Lol it would be such a pain in the ass if distilled water was required for everything.

I use RO water in the PC just to keep it clean and either RO or distilled for bucket tek/misting because my tap water isn't chlorinated, has lots of iron bacteria, and might as well be a calcium slurry it's so full of minerals. I use it for hydrating grains though.

Got it. I've been a bit overzealous with the distilled using it for almost everything that goes in the PC (aside from grain). I see now that it's overkill and fine to use tap.

I don't have running water save for a shallow surface well I can plug in/drop in to pump and a (very clean) creek on the property- and have noticed ZERO difference between either of those options or the ever precious potable water I truck in from town. I do use- as Pasty mentioned- distilled for spore syringes (an obvious choice there...); but other than that I just don't see any difference... I pre-boil creek water to kill microorganisms and use it for most everything. When I started experimenting with different sources I thought for sure I was going to run into some qualitative hurdle (especially given the content of iron and sulfur in the surface well water/PH issues), but so far, I just am not seeing it...

I would use tap water. In the past I lived in two places where the tap was undrinkable (to most), St Paul MN with brown water from the Mississippi and an unincorporated urban are where the well water wasn't very good. So if I had been growing there I would have used the bottled water I was drinking.
And like Pastywhyte said, use distilled for making syringes. It requires so little so why take a chance. I still use boiling tap water for the preliminary stages of cleaning and flushing out old syringes. But once you go past PF tek, you're only making syringes every couple years.

Distilled is used in syringes to prevent the spores from germinating.
