Blue bruising mushroom found in Ca foothills last winter.
    #26867045 - 08/06/20 06:54 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Habitat:
California foothills. Mixed oak woodland. In soil/leaf litter.

It was found last winter, I forget exactly when, sometime between Dec & Feb. I've been meaning to post it here for a while but I'm terrible at getting pics uploaded lol. Super curious what it is.

I didn't really make note of any other characteristics. I was out for a day outdoors and looking for mushrooms in general. The blue bruising on the stem of this mushroom is what caught my eye. It looks like a very similar blue-ing that active species have, but I know blue-bruising does occur in some non-active species. In person the blue was much more pronounced than what is seen in the pics.

I've been in the area where I found this mushroom many times over the years and haven't seen this one before.

The area where I found it

Looks To Be A Psilocybe Sp, I'd Say Either Ovoideocystidiata Or Cyanescens, But I Can't Be Positive.

I'd also say ovoid. Looks like a somewhat unusual habitat  too.

Did you see it stain or was it already blue? The cap looks somewhat viscid which makes me think it could be one of the blue Stropharia species.
