Likely Leucocoprinus birnbaumii

Habitat:
Where does it grow?  *Potted plant - mix of soil, orchid wood chips, and various size rock for drainage.

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.  *Not yet open.

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.  *~2" in length, bright yellow, rough top with smooth stem.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc. *Not yet open.

Spore print color:  *unknown, yet.
Very important!

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.  *none to discern

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.  *middle of the summer in Central Florida, hot and wet.  I water the potted plants every other day.

yup, snails will snack it up on those pretty things,  they can devour mushrooms and mycelium in no time.

slugs are the worst about it though, they have all but destroyed my ovoid bed :mad2:

I don't know if I notice a difference really,  they are both voracious and will destroy a colony in no time,  seems like overnight sometimes

Well, you haven't seen the slug infestations that I have here, and they are 10 times bigger than the snails! but I agree, both can do significant damage to plants,and fungus alike.

Does this even grow outside of potting soil? I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere else.

I believe they do.  If I remember correctly, they grow wild in South America, off decayed wood/humus

I found some groing out of cow manure one time believe it or not, but all the other times they were in my flower pots.

I have found them in my parents neighborhood greenspace growing from an area that was cleared for trials. No sign there was any potting soil there.
