Help needed for complete newbie! Save me from myself!
    #26866516 - 08/06/20 01:36 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Hi everyone, so I'm at the point that I'm sure most here have reached...this my first attempt and I'm wondering about contamination at 5 weeks.  I have 3 pots that are a concern to me.  I'm going to try to share pics as I think they explain the situation better than I ever could.  The last pictures I'll upload are the healthy pots, that I don't have concerns with.  Any help would be REALLY appreciated.

They're growing invitro, you should've birthed them a long time ago.

However, if you have pins growing before full colonization, it
usually means theres contamination present and your fruits
are trying to grow asap to spread its spores.

If they're fully colonized and no contamination present,
i'd birth them.

So this isn't contamination then?  If that's the case I'll do it tonight.  My only concern was contamination.  However, my spidy senses were telling me it wasn't.  I left them this long because they hadn't spread as I expected them to.  Well, it's great this forum is here. Thanks for your post. Peace x

Really?  It's not growing like any I've seen.  Bit fluffy around the bottom of that big narly one. I swear I'm REALLY gonna need this when its grown.  Stressy past time I've decided to take up.

Much thanks.

looks like this mushroom grew across the lid and once freed it righted itself and embedded itself within the substrate.
also the cap is malformed due to the stress of invitro pinning.

You all must sit there shaking your head at us newbies and the questions we ask.  The first time is bit like getting in a plane and flying it, after only reading the manual.

Yes that's exactly what has happened.  As soon as I birthed, he (I may name him) just burst out like expanding foam hahahaha

Will it make a difference that the cap is malformed, or is that purely aesthetic?

I attempt to nudge people in the right direction.
It's enjoyable to assist others in their questions and ponderings when difficult situations arise.
that fruit will perhaps not drop spore, and it could possibly not grow any larger than it is, but yes it is purely cosmetic due to stress.

EDIT: I'm saying the cap wont get much bigger.

Oh no its growing like crazy.  Its only been a couple of days and its grown at least 3-4 inches and the stem seems to be 2 stems that have conjoined...undoubtedly because I left it too long.

I should have come here sooner because I disposed of a whole collonised pot because I thought it was contaminated, it was just growing already!  Lol

Its brilliant that you help us out.  I will pay it forward when I have learned more.  X

Re: sheshe , BTW, those fruits are usable, no matter how deformed they may look after Shawshanking their way through the jar. If there is no 'off' smell, all is rock 'n roll. :mushroom2:

Hahaha thanks for the advice!  There's no smell from any of my pots.  Is there a world record size shroom?  I think I'm growing it!  Since messaging on here its grown even more, there's no stopping him.

I am mucho happy for your success. But believe it or not, I have seen shrooms the length of your forearm, with caps the size of a small dinner plates -seriously. Long time growers often amuse themselves with such experiments because they have nailed the basics of growing. And also because they are socially awkward and can't get laid.

But on a more mature  note (OK, everybody try to act like adults!), don't think bigger is better. IME, small to medium shroomies are just as good or even better. Just store them well. The # 1 killer of potency is air. Get a cheap vacuum bag sucker type thing from walmart or your equivalent big box store and suck it pal, and then freeze it, and then :mushroom2: at your leisure. :leaving:

Ahhhh such awesome advice.  Thank you kindly...I shall heed your words!  It's so fascinating watching the process.  I have created a pot of mutants, that's for sure. Which makes things both scary but interesting.  Here's a pic of another mutant in the same pot.  Lol  What happens when you leave it colonizing too long.
