Stir plate recommendations

I’ve seen a couple cheap ones on amazon for like 20 something and a 50 dollars, but they both had some bad reviews that got my attention. I’ve heard some people say that a good quality plate will usually be at least 90 but I’m not sure I don’t really wanna spend that much on a stir plate since I’m planning on building a hood soon.

You're right, it ain't worth it to spend much on a stir plate IMO.
You can find really good ones for cheap.
This one was under 30 bucks on eBay, served me well and still works like the first day after 3 years.
Or simply don't buy one, it aint needed. I don't use mine anymore actually.

Get a used name brand on ebay for less that 50 bucks. Some even have free shipping.

Is there any point in having a heated plate for cult? Or is it just to look
I’m getting more into edibles so I was hoping it’d cut out a lot of the work until I get my hood, g2g in a box is doable but it’s a bitch lol.

It may help for dissolving nutes when making LC or agar maybe but other than that probably not much use. I'm all for pre dissolving powders before sterilization but alot of people don't.
I bought the stirplate off eBay for like 27 bucks. Works great. I only use for stirring LCs.

I looked at that one but the negative reviews looked pretty gnarly. I think I’m gonna look around craigslist and eBay first lol

If you're feeling a little adventurous maybe build one. I did and I love it. I also regret it but that's just because I spent too much money on it (about $30) when I could have just bought one already made for roughly the same price.

I might do that if I can’t find one by the weekend. Might even be better if it’s not super complicated has better quality parts. Most of the complaints I’ve seen about those cheap ones were that the bar wouldn’t stay engaged at low speeds and not being able keep the bar in the right spot at higher speeds. As long as you don’t have those issues I’d imagine you’re probably better off lol.

I have the same one. I can only get it to half speed with a 2" stir bar, but that seems to be plenty fast for my purposes. The 1" bars need the speed to be cranked up slowly, but will get going to full speed. I only stir once a day for like 2-3 minutes anyway. Works for me.

Yea I don't bother looking at reviews anymore they talk me out of buying stuff then when you read into them 95% of the time it's user error. Like the guy who complains in the reviews his new AGM battery swelled after he put a high amp charger to it and blames the battery when it says in the description not to charge with more than 4amps or whatever. I mean that's just something I read recently but I have seen countless dumbasses give bad reviews. Some of the reviewers I feel lack in common sense. Add that with all the "paid" reviews nowadays and it like you have something completely unusable almost. In the case of this stir plate I believe most of the reviews said something like it was out of balance or something like that. Well I kind of agree it sucks because you can't just turn the dial up to full speed and expect it to work. You have to slowly turn it up or it will throw the stir bar. To me that's a ok trade off for a savings of around $40-$50. I think if it's something you will use alot and want to last go with a little better one but this one will get the job done if you just need something quick and dirty. I also brew so mine is multipurpose. I've been using it for probably 6 months now and have on multiple occasions forget it on for days on end it holds up to abuse but as far as selling points it is what it is lmao. I'm not trying to talk you into it or anything just consider that my review lmao.

Think I might get a used ika color squid for 50. Still looking around at used Corning models though so I’m not 100 percent sure yet lol. It’s kinda hard to find reviews for these things but I’ve read that nearly anything by those two brands should be quality enough.

Well good luck in your searches. Did you decide to go with one that also heats?

Honestly I’ve been too busy to look around much since I posted this haha. It’ll definitely be a plus if it does but I’m only planning on using it for lc so I’m not gonna go outta my way to find one.
