Misting & Fanning question
    #26865321 - 08/05/20 07:13 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hi guys, this is my first time growing (starting with the PF Tek because it seems really good for beginners) and my jars are doing well so far, showing the the first signs of mycelium on Aug 1st and are now spreading quickly. I'm already trying to prepare for the fruiting chamber process and I know how important it is to mist and fan multiple times a day, which will be easy for me because I'm home a lot. However, on the last weekend of August I have important plans I can't get out of and I'll only be able to come home briefly once on the Saturday and then again once on Sunday until I'm home again full-time on Monday.
Will it be devastating to my cakes only being misted and fanned once a day for a couple days? I plan on misting a bit more heavily to hopefully make up for the multiple misting sessions.

Here are my jars so far, sorry the paper tape looks a little chaotic, they're still covering the holes though!

That will be fine. If your fruiting chamber is built right, you shouldn’t need to fan too much anyway. I do after the mist, maybe once more, though I’ve missed a day or two fanning and it was fine. Do not mist more heavily to try and make up for lost time. If you do the 24 hour submerge soak they will have all of the moisture inside that they require for fruiting. The misting is for evaporation(pinning trigger) only, and most new growers over mist anyways, I for sure did on a grow or two ;-). You just want light mist like once...MAYBE twice a day. And I’m talking light. Like if u think- that’s not enough, my cakes look too dry still after like 2-4 sprays- it’s enough. Slightly drier looking cakes seem to produce more than cakes that are a little too wet imo.

Fruiting cakes is easy and misting is never an issue with the Water Tub and HC

@HalfGinger @Mateah Thank you for the responses, feeling better now! 😄

@Saul Ptamets. Yeah, the jar on the far right actually only got 1 and a half squirts of spore solution because I ran out so it’s taking a bit longer to colonize, hopefully it will be alright and will just need more time than the others.

Impossible to say if they're contaminated or not but that's certainly cube mycelium and not mold if that's what you're wondering? They look about ready to birth as well.
