Agar contam question
    #26864991 - 08/05/20 04:46 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Is this salvageable? I'm going to  make some transfers off of it but I think I'm going to also cut out the contam at the top and around the 6-9 oclock position. Is it normal to cut out spots like that and still use it?

Transfer the leading edge of the healthy side over to a clean plate. That’s what agar is for! 👍

You now know that there’s a contam present so you transfer healthy myc over to a new healthy clean prepped plate. I’d transfer from around the 4 o clock area of the pic there. Maybe even do a few transfers from that side over to a couple new plates?

Thats what I did. I  made 5 tranfsers off that sample. I'm more wondering about after I did that, if I cut out the funky looking stuff will it still be usable? I've thrown out some decent looking agar growth because of a spot or two the size of the one at 12 oclock.

Do you or can you just cut it out? Is it recommended to do so? I guess we will see what happens in a couple days, if the contam moves or comes back

You can’t just cut out a contam, unfortunately. 😓

You can transfer away from it but it’s too risky to just cut it out and use the agar.
