Pasturized rice hulls for easy pickins'

Anyone using this method of pasteurizing rice hulls for the top layer of sub (like a casing of sorts). Just watched a new video of someone (who i believe people dont like here too much) using this method. Fruits snap off like Velcro and the damage to the myc was minimal compared to not using it. Beautiful harvesting sound lol. Just curious what people think of this TEK (not the person). thx

I just don't see why its necessary, harvesting is already easy enough. Damaging the sub isn't really a problem either. I've been super rough in the past, pulling plum sized chunks out/tearing the whole sub into several pieces and it doesn't cause any noticeable problems.
That being said, you should do it if you want to, nothing wrong with doing things differently even if its just because of the sound it makes. You do you man.

I personally like to leave stumps behind to facilitate the microclimate. Sounds satisfying though.

I like to watch his videos, but I don't agree with a lot of what he does. He has some great tips here and there, but overall he does tend to contradict a lot of the "shroomery gospel" that I hold in high regard. Especially things I've learned from TCs. That being said he seems like a good dude who's just out there doing what he loves and not giving a fuck what people say about it, which is enough to earn my respect.

Kernale, i agree. He means well and does have some great tips. A lot is counter-intuitive and breaks a lot of "rules". I actually like this about him

It's not that anyone here discourages others from trying new new things, it's that noobs in particular are discouraged from deviating from tried-and-true methods. When they try something new and without having the basics mastered and it backfires, it's hard for everyone else to help them troubleshoot.

Where if you're alone, you know, you either come through it or you die, but in any case you avoid the fuss.'" - Terrence McKenna

I totally agree and understand. I always say you gotta a learn how to drive before you build a hot rod
It is easy to get carried away with multiple teks, adding nutrients, playing around with substrate "formulas", tub designs, auto-foggers, automated FAE, etc especially as a novice.
It is exciting and fun to dream up, but usually not practical or even worth the resources and efforts involved. In the process of simplifying, we tend to over complicate.
I do however, think this rice hull tek will be useful for PEs and other casing loving species. Im gonna give it a try soon just for S&Gs
