Does anyone get convulsions/spasms from psilocybin mushrooms? 1

They're the only psychedelic that affects me this way. Have gotten it from different batches and different strains. Doesn't always happen though, maybe like 1 in 3 mushroom trips. It was alarming the first couple times but now I just roll with it like I'm acting in the exorcist movie. Can be kind of therapeutic actually. I remember Paul Stamets once said that he got convulsions from Panther caps, but that's something completely different ofc.
Anyone else? or is my body just weird?

No. Do you have epilepsy, take any meds, or have a diagnosed or suspected mental disorder?
I vaguely remember reading about some people with bi-polar disorder having seizures with psychedelics, for example: This Silicon Valley angel investor loves a drug that gave him hours of seizures

I have a mainly bedridden handicap friend that gets spasms every time, they say it's therapeutic and feels great after. I think it might have to do with stiff muscles and or a lack of potassium. It's like the electrical nervous system signals get stuck.

I get tremors when I trip sometimes, its like a physical response like my body is going into fight or flight. Feels as if my nervous system is oscillating to the point of almost leaving my body. One time on APEs it got really intense and asked for some Benzos to calm down my nervous system.
Funny what GordoTEK mentions because I have family with Bipolar disorder.

Thanks for the replies all
To be honest I hadn't looked into it much until now, posted this thread on a whim and ended up doing some more research after I gave it some more thought and got a bit worried
There are quite a few reports from epileptics and non-epileptics alike (https://www.erowid.org/ask/ask.php?ID=2837), with people on reddit attributing it to anything from hypoglycemia to kundalini awakenings... I think the potassium deficiency thing could be major possibility since I tend to eat quite light leading up to a trip. I've had my muscles seize up in the past when I didn't eat for several days which was because of low potassium (being a dumb kid at the time).
@Gordo I do have a history of diagnosed unipolar depression so some of my baseline neurotransmitters may be a bit more screwey than the average person, but no bipolar. Also no epilepsy in my family as far as I know. I'm not on any meds but I do take various nootropics which are usually abstained from the week before tripping.
The above replies sound more or less similar to my experience. I think it may be a combination of potentially low potassium + deep unreleased muscle tension + vasoconstriction + psychosomatic stress. I'm wondering if it could be a kind of nervous system purge similar to throwing up.
I should clarify that the spasms aren't painful or wild/overwhelming like one sees with actual epileptics. If I try hard I can tense up my body and mostly suppress it, but it feels better to just let it out.
It's just interesting since of the psychs i've tried LSD/DMT/aya/mescaline/MDMA don't have any effect like this, only mushrooms. Very odd

With your mention of "feeling like you're in an exorcist movie" I would best deduce down to your ability with any dmt based plant/alkaloid that it allows you to open your mind in such a way that you can channel just about any consciousness with enough practice. Sounds to me like you are channeling something and not realizing what it is you are in fact allowing through. This is why it is so crucial to conduct so much research before engaging in psycho actives. Best of luck to you with your future adventures!
This is where science and mysticism/spirituality have yet to overlap, where as mentioned above, science will identify markers such as vascular constriction where mysticism would identify this as changing your very being/electromagnetic vibration/awareness levels.
I've had epilepsy for 6-7 years now with a handful of grand-mal seizures. Completely quit the pharmaceuticals over 6 months ago (Benzodiazepine & Keppra), replaced with cannabis and mushrooms; and have not had a single one.
For me, I could feel my gaba activity syching up where it needed to be with micro-dose of cubes. Feel lighter, healthier, everything just all around keeps getting more clear each day which has been a long road from 4-8mg of benzodiazepine dosage I was at last year and have cut completely out since Janurary.
Knock on wood; thank you universe.

That's an interesting perspective which admittedly I hadn't thought of. As much as we know about psychedelic medicines, there's still so much uncertainty around exactly what is going on in our brains/minds with these experiences. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the mushrooms were making me tap into some accumulated shadow material (I haven't tripped for a few months and life's been a bit rough since then) and the body shaking was a kind of low-key trauma release.
Glad to hear you're off the benzos man, gabaergic dependency is rough. Hope things continue to improve for you

Just posting an update for completeness' sake. I did some more reading and I think a contribution to the tremors was my intermittent GHB use over the last few months. Even though my use wasn't that heavy (a dose every 2-3 weeks), i think it contributed to a mild kindling effect. Kindling lowers people's seizure threshold, and so does mushrooms, so they may have amplified each other.
That being said, I have gotten the shakes from mushrooms in the past before I ever tried GHB, so I don't think it's wholly responsible. However, at the moment even microdosing gives me some muscle tightness and slight trembling at the moment so I'm dropping everything for at least a month so my system can dry out a bit. I also won't be going back to G (or just once or twice a year, if that) or gaba drugs in general. I'll probably just stick to syrian rue and focus on getting in top health rather than looking for highs at the moment.

I have gotten spasms from above my ankles to my thighs from DMT before. It honestly scared me. It was probably the furthest I’ve ever gone on DMT, and then I came back and was having a pretty bad spasm for about 10 minutes. Some people said it was a kundalini awakening, and I have no reason to disbelieve anything regarding that but have zero knowledge on the subject.

Doesn't happen for no reason, probably a negative energy you are releasing or allowing yourself to tap into. If it feels therapeutic you probably are releasing stuck/repressed energy in your body.

Now that you mention it, the spasms I get are mostly in my upper legs as well. Weird...

Yeah, it doesn't feel 'bad' per se. Feel better when it's over though, like with any challenging trip. I guess I'm less concerned by the shaking itself and more vexed that I can't pin down what's causing it exactly. I'd agree with you about the negative/blocked energy thing. In future I think I'll try doing some intentional stress releasing in the days leading up to a trip and see what happens.

Shaking on mushrooms and LSD is pretty well known/documented, sometimes the shaking can travel from the legs into the chest and other stuff like that. It's not unheard of, and has been known about since the 60s. Not sure what causes it.

Yeah, with the whole psychedelic research renaissance thing going on at the moment maybe someone will come along and investigate why this happens exactly. Well I guess at the very least this thread has helped put my mind at ease knowing that I'm not the only one this happens to and that nothing medically unsound is going on (probably😅)

Hmmm just a thought but has anyone considered this perspective. I used to lucid dream then later on life I later learned I can force myself into lucid dreaming.Which is fun but not before a work day because you will feel like you really haven't rested when you wake up. During this time period I started accidentally getting weird moments where I felt like a fell into my body and sometimes I could even see the room I was in before it happened. (not lucid dreaming) I later looked up outer body experience after I had one after taking 3.5 of albino penis envy, and then 40 minutes later I took 4.3 of creepers. The reason I mention all this is because the next time after that I had an outer body experience I remember the feeling I went through right before I actually got out of my body. This time not on shrooms. It's taxing and very uncomfortable but at the same time it's soothing after. Hard to explain. But there is a thin line from the moment your trying to leave your body you get these trembles. If you don't pass that line your body will jerk and spasm like a seizure. When this happens you pretty much failed on leaving your body. I don't know if any of you ever had an outer body experience. They can be very confusing, random in type of experience , and sometimes you will see other people. But if you have ever gone through it and have ended up partially leaving your body you will understand what I mean about the trembling and jerks your body will do when you get snapped back in. As a matter of fact. Close your eyes. Now with your eyes closed move your eyes as if your looking towards your forehead just slightly above your eyebrows. Now move your eyes rapidly , not side to side but vibrate them. You will feel a pressure in your head slightly. The hairs on your forearms will rise up like goosebumps. And you will get a tingling feeling throughout your whole body. This effect imagine it was multiplied 1,000 fold and that's the feeling of when your trying to leave your body. It makes you jerk and spasm when unsuccessful or when struggling to get out.
