Facets of imperfection that amount to a bump in the road in a time slowed to a pitch that gives them greater meaning and a lasting impact.
What's your take?

neither perfect nor imperfect, we are variously engaged bipedal investigators, musicians, poets and artists still cleaning up the last party while scheduling the next.
sometimes our families are affected by how we move around, sometimes we are fully independent for a while.

The categorical placement of bumps might ensure their availability in a universe populated with objects.

On an abstract level, we are, simultaneously, everything and nothing.
To our own perception, the world is solipsistic, almost non-existent if out of our immediate range of senses. In that sense, we are that which experiences and, perhaps, projects the world directly within our view.
And we are nothing. If we believe that there is a world outside of our immediate perception, then we play an almost imperceptible role in the movement of reality.
On a more realistic level, we are strands in a complex, interconnected, web. When one of us acts, the ripples are felt across the entire structure of reality. Thus, we are individual agents of an indivisible whole. We simply perceive the elements of reality as separate because our vision is narrow.
Just some of my thoughts on the matter.

. If "Reality is What You Can Get Away With" as Robert Anton Wilson said in a title he used, then asking what we are, is sort of amusing. I guess it implies we invent ourselves, which is actually also not a new idea, which although it sounds profound, is not necessarily entirely so; but also not necessarily entirely wrong.

That cincides with my take on Tom Sawyer being a metaphore.
If Reality comes first and then the Metahore we might conclude that Language itself is a metaphor, an invention. No leap of the imagination in that one.
In this respect we may go so far as to interpret events as metaphors.

Public servants perform for a minimal expected return in my estimation, but perhaps the roles are reversable when the occasion calls for it.
Meta-poor.

We are a particular species on a particular planet revolving around a particular mass of fire in a particular galaxy of which our own species has observed a minimum of several trillion.
I also think we are cute. So very cute.

There is no better introduction to religious theory than the multi faceted beliefs of the various sects of Hinduism IMO. Though there is much that is but superstition even there. Less so directly from their holy men. But Yoga and Vedanta is what you might call the science of religion. If you really want to look into it I believe that be where your search is best off starting.
Through understanding Hinduism you can easily understand the truer foundations behind most every religion. I'd say that Hinduism is not really a religion as we think of it in the west but a broader selection of cultural ideas. It's holy men (most recently ramana maharishi) also had the most scientific and rational approach of all religious figures, Viveknanda is also worth checking out for a rationalist introduction to religion.
Vedanta was what Schopenhauer put great stock in. Either way none of this landed India in a good philosophical spot today so the message so the message is certainly very questionable. None the less it makes for an enlightening and interesting reading IMO.

how do you define true if hinduism is truer in any way than all other religions?
did this become ratified by scholars, or hindu pundits, do zoroastrians agree? How about the original Americans?

Just my opinion dude take it or leave it. Unfortunately I'm pretty well read in terms of religious scripture and figureheads. I certainly have no idea if it's been ratified by scholars and neither do I care.
If you like me to back it up a little more I can probably say that the fact that Hinduism allowed for a wider variety of beliefs without crucifying dissenters is what makes it more appealing to me as an entry point to anyone trying to make head or tail of the world of scripture.
