Right now in India, Modi leads the modern Hindu Nationalist party, which exists primarily as an anti-muslim and xenophobic political platform. This would suggest that Hinduism is not functionally tolerant of other religions in the real world.

in a perfect world it might be more perfect.

I know the whole world is a bit stupid these days with all forms of fundamentalism and fake news, but Modi is relevant in this particular discussion.

Well I did already put that addendum in my original post. I've been to modern day India and I know in a lot of ways it's a shit hole. But the old Hindu civilisation was one of the great ones IMO and created many many more men who had something close to the power of gods than any other civilisation we have well recorded. The question of where it all lead is certainly something to give one pause.

We are some form of primeate with absolutely unique consciousness and brain on this planet. We are the kings of the animals, the top of the food pyramid. We are the gods of this planet essentially.

There are various ways to describe the forms and functions we express, but what are we? I don't know.

I find buddhism to be

buddha did very good and had it very good and was very good

in terms of these two and that is mostly what life and existence is about he scored

as one of the highest there has been

top class and top tenth of that class on this earth

so as a religioin where you say do this and you will have it as good as possible

and be  as good as possible

and do as good as possible

it is meaningful or like when buddha was like this and he understood of one of the highest qualitites it is meaningful

religion is not that useful though but buddhism videos are good

and general outlines of right and wrong how life should be (proper action)

no harm

and things like that

like rules

these things are true

we might impose rules to be our brother's keeper in our impatience to prevent unpleasantness.

"In the Vinaya (Monastic Discipline) books and Anguttara Nikaya Sutta 8.51, the Buddha said the True Dhamma will last five hundred years. This means it will be pure and unadulterated during this period only."

the monastic group's quotation of the Buddha regarding 500 years is unverifiable, and largely optimistic,
but truth is what it is, and it keeps being rediscovered and explained in new vernaculars all along the way.

By the same token a verse asserting water being transformed into wine is unverifiable as truth. How is a lucid dream verified? By popular vote? Is vernacular Buddhism or the miracles of Jesus true simply because people want them to be true?

I believe in Spiritual possession and in Higher intelligences.
Perhaps they will be so kind as to enable Ferdinando to give us a demonstration of the Buddha Power.
