Habitat: Growing both solitary and in big troups (50 plus!) in moss-covered duff beneath mature Live Oak and Doug Fir. Anomalous fog-drip responsible for July fruiting.
Gills: Forks fairly frequent, both close to stipe and near cap edge.
Stem: White, flesh is pithy.
Cap: diameter variable from 1 o 3 inches. Color variable, center often mottled with yellowish patches.
Spore print: yellowish, NOT white.
Bruising: not significant
Taste: mild at first, becoming acrid like pepper.

How about Russula atropurpurea? Description fits, especially the mild hot sensation.

^ Damn, that's sure looking good. The only thing that doesn't fit is the white spore print, but that may be because my prints from older fruits was weak. Thanks! I'm wondering if this next fog drip -tonight- will yield more.

Then again, maybe it's Russula vinacea. After reading up on it all, I'm bound to have confusing mushroom taxonomic nightmares. Well anyway, sure was fun to find... in July!

Russula vinacea would have been my next guess. Looks like the spore itself is the defining feature between them, i was just going in appearance and it being "spicy" Russula as a whole are poorly understood and convoluted lol

That's for sure! I ~think~ I actually found 4 species in this location. Here are the other 3... R. cerolens, R. brevipes, and R. xerampelina...smells like shrimp!
