Found these in a grass field and this is my first time hunting mushrooms. I'm currently making a spore print which I will post later on. Also it has been raining a lot these past few days.
Down below are some pictures. https://imgur.com/a/LVLhTA0

I’d say Pan. foe. The gills should be darker, but spore print will confirm100%

So one active grass panaeolus like that size or pan cinctulus isn't going to do anything noticeable. I would draw a mark next to it and really look though. Then if one is find a whole lot more cheers

Always get an id 100% before anything and I'm not even close to a TI so don't take my word for anything, cheers

Always move the mushroom cap next to the spore print when checking out the print colour. That way you actually know which cap dropped which colored spores. The other print looks black to me aswell, the other one brown.

Don't be so quick to judge based on gills being brownish because Pan. cinctulus will have brownish gills turning black as the spores mature. We need more information, like substrate and general location to rule out other species.

I didn't know that! I always thought the mottled gills were key in identifying p. cintulus. Thanks for the good info as always Doc

In my personal opinion, it is nearly impossible to separate the active/inactive Panaeolus species in grass unless they have obvious brownish or purplish black/brownish spore prints. The only way to know is to eat them, they won't hurt you if they are not active. There are no known poisonous Panaeolus that I'm aware of at the moment.

A trick with id'ing Pan. cinctulus is winding lines around the stem. The stem also doesn't break as easily as foenisecii
