3 Gs and a river. 3

So I had a first this weekend. There is a river in my town, about the size of the Mississippi River at the Natchez-Vidalia Bridge. Big enough to make some people think twice about what is fixing to happen is my point, it made me think twice. We decided to put in the river at one park and float down to the another beach to get out. By put in I mean we all tied pool floats off to a cooler stuck in an intertube and pushed out into the current.
The night before had my mind racing as I wanted to experience it on shrooms. Everyone else was drinking and that's not something I enjoy myself as a friend of Bill W. The obvious worries; being stuck on a float and not being able to change destination, the nausea accompanied by moving water, my limbs not working if I fell in the water, you know, EVERYTHING went through my mind. In the end sanity won as we were taking precautions such as life vests and the likes to insure no one drowned. So it was all in my head and I accepted that and put trust in my friends to hold me down if it went sideways. Which it did not go sideways.
It was an amazing experience. We floated for close to 8 hours down this river under new (20 year old) bridges, old (100 year old) bridges, past beautiful riverside homes, and through some wonderful landscape. The first 4 hours I was stuck in awe at the beauty of my home town that I've never seen from the river. You don't appreciate the view from a quickly moving boat like you do from a slowly cruising float. It was amazing. With a mix of old school rap, sublime, and Marley accompanying us I couldn't have asked for a better day.
If you ever have the opportunity and the friends that you trust to accompany you, there were 5 of us, I would certainly suggest this. A never ending lazy river, some dehydrated shrooms, and good music.

Now that must have been awesome, a true experience in itself regardless of shrooms !
I guess I couldn't have avoided thinking about Apocalypse Now and the river, not a good memory to have while tripping I suppose

I was a bit concerned about where my head space would be chilling. I live down south so gators are a thing, not so much in the open river but they do pop up every now and again on the banks. There were also fairly big boats hauling ass up and down the river as well and a couple of house boats moving up the river. Not to mention the 5 to 10 minutes I spent thinking about this movie I watched once, set back in the 50s or 60s about sharks swimming up river in a town and wreaking havoc lol. But about 30 minutes in, all of that subsided and it was impossible not to lay back and stare in awe at the roots and old architecture. Nature meets civilization. Crazy stuff.

Thanks for this SoupyGeorge. That's a long float, and I'd be more apt to kayak than tube.... but tripping and just floating sounds amazing. Great soundtrack too, wish I was there.
Sounds like the Brazos...

I get what you mean, I had a trip a few weeks back on a different context but I feared something (or rather someone, long story short ...) could pop out of nowhere. I got absorbed by beauty and had a nice time. With your friends around it must have been a relief and enabled you to let go.
