Fresh wood as substrate?

This sounds to me like a question that should have been answered many times around here, but i could not find the answer. In the next few days, im gonna be trimming my cherry tree, and was wondering if i could use the branches (maybe even leaves?) as a substrate for mushrooms.
Does it need to be aged/dried first, or is it good to go right from the tree?
Thanks

yeah, though I am not familiar with how well fruit tree wood works or if it's favored by particular species. search for "dowel plug inoculation" - for some trees it's recommended that they age for just a bit to let the natural fungicides produced by the tree subside, but not long enough for other things to take hold. Most I think recommend cutting in late winter or finding downed branches at the end of winter to minimize possibility of contamination. outside of winter or for sensitive species like maitake some people will sterilize whole logs in grow bags or oven bags, depending on which size log fits in your PC There is a ton of info out there on it though once you know what you're searching for. (keywords to search)
You could also have the branches chipped and then prepare spawn for inoculating mulch/wood chip beds. wine cap works well on mulch and so do oysters and obviously some actives like Ps cyans. google "inoculating mushroom wood chip bed" or similar. There are plenty of methods for pasteurizing these. For mine I fermented them for 2 weeks submerged in water, to allow an anaerobic culture take over. Then when you dump the water and spread them out in the sun/fresh air, the anaerobic things all die out. then when you inoculate with your desired mycelium it has free reign to run through the chips/mulch.

Probably the best use of them I'd say!
