Hi, I'm trying to grow TT and phonix oyster having previously only grown cubes. I have a plate of each and mycelium looks very wispy compared to previous cube plates. If someone could be so kind as to advice if this is cause for concern?

Kind regards

I wanna say neither of those look right, but it's been a minute...
Maybe they don't like your agar recipe?
Both of those are generally pretty damn thick.

You should also have 3 inoculation points, kind of forming a triangle on the dish. I started out doing just one in the middle before and the mycelium kicked off and got tired. Where as with 3 points, the mycelium from each piece will meet and form hyphal knots, making a much stronger and well covered plate. Maybe its nonsense but I know that When I switched from doing "one piece" in the middle to "three pieces" spread out, my plates have been MUCH better.

Thank you, much respect
Will try that next time. I've done a fair few plates with cubes and never had many issues but have failed twice now with none actives. Guess it's just a learning curve
Thanks again

Disturbed the agar and made little pools of bacteria

Don't worry, the king oyster ate it, just take from the other side of the plate!
