So... I think I have a tape worm

So I really didn't want to make this thread because it's embarrassing but it's cautionary. I have had abdominal, pain, appetite issues and nausea since I was 14 and a little before the pandemic began I what blood for 4-5 days and they told me it was hemmoroids. So the last month or so if he been having an itching stabbing pain in my asshole. When I consulted over the phone they thought it was hemorrhoids. I have been getting more abdominal pain + appetite loss+ sleepless nights. Then I finally Google it . My symptoms matched exactly to pinworms which freaked me out enough to schedule an emergency appointment. Then about an hour ago I took what I thought was a big shit and when I looked in the bowl I saw what I thought was toilet paper that was wet so I started to flush but as it was going down I realized I did not use toilet paper and it did not look like toilet paper. I think that was a big tapeworm. So tomorrow it will be addressed finally but I am pretty nervous. I think this is been going on for a while and I know there is complications with tapeworms I do not want to deal with.
Anyone have experience with this? I stay home all the time and only get fast food from drive-this and a local burger shop . Whatever the case after shitting out a ribbon that looked like toilet paper I am terrified.

Oral medication takes care of it pretty easily from what I’ve heard. I wouldn’t worry too much. Hell, I just ate a slim Jim about an hour ago so I’m probably next.
Also, from what I can tell you aren’t even certain of a diagnosis - so don’t sweat it. Like I said, there are meds that take care of it quick & easy as pie.

I've always been a little curious about taking some deworming medication just to see if anything results, if I could get my hands on any. I've heard even in otherwise healthy seeming people, taking a dewormer can result in some crazy shit. So maybe try some dewormer? If you can get your hands on any, maybe the doctor will prescribe it.

You know, that just made me realize that if you're had tapeworms for that long, those tapeworms have tripped balls over the years.

Thank you all this helped a lot with the other posts. It seems like you’re giving birth to a life draining demon. I’m achy, have stomach pain feel drained, have gotten even less sleep then usual. Sitting down hurts, it’s embarrasing to talk about irl. Honestly that solid ribbon scared the hell out of me, terrifying expierence when you realize it’s not multiple sheets of toilet paper but a probable parasite. *shudders* thank you all though I need someone to tell me it’s okay just got to the doc and not freak vs RUN UR ASS to ER which I’ve done when I asked about the blood here and it helped when I needed it. One of the morals to this story is I saw a white film on my shits for a while and just thought “shits are weird” it’ll pass. Nope look at your shits carefully before you flush

This is a big fear of mine. The symptoms have gotten worse over the past few months so I’m hoping my previous illnesses had nothing to do with that. Good god that would be horrible though and it’s a possibility gives me the creeps big time.

Go to a doctor. The Shroomery is like 10,000% the wrong place for these inquiries.
But my vote goes for Steve. You can always count on a Steve.
Also, yeah I heard a bit on NPR once about tape worms. It kind of sounds like you have a tape worm, but you should go to a doctor.

Apparently its possible to just shit them out and be cured.
Some people with tapeworm infections never need treatment, for the tapeworm exits the body on its own. Others don't realize they have it because they have no symptoms. However, if you're diagnosed with intestinal tapeworm infection, medication will likely be prescribed to get rid of it.Dec 15, 2017

OP, I’m telling you, it’s okay to go see a doctor and have him examine you. Share what’s going on honestly and leave your embarrassment at the door. They’ve learned & been trained how to handle all this stuff in med school & in practice. They know how to diagnose various worms, and how to treat them and with what medicine - and it’s super effective.
Btw, a gastroenterologist is for just such things (specialist). Tho, if an internist / GP can make a diagnosis they can also treat it - if not, they can refer you to a specialist who can.

That probably is what a section of tapeworm would look like though. Like a single ply of tp. They look like sauteed onions. I think I read they can grow up to 75 feet all up in yo guts and you never know it’s there.
Gotta be careful when treating parasites, the die off can fuck your world up pretty bad depending on type/location etc. Filthy creatures, us humans...filthy, indeed.

Yeah I think I experienced sections honestly I hope it's pinworms because I think it's have the smallest effect on my health overall. Been reading up and it still could be pinworms who kno? Well the doc will tommorow or after my tests. Thanks y'all it is something I gotta swallow pride with. Even though I did experience more pain and all the other symptoms I mentioned but I figured if it could go away that'd less embarrassing I was wrong again

Yeah our neighbors kids had worms a while back so I have been reading up on some things
Its literally one pill that disables the worms method of absorbing nutrients and kills it. Onother pill a couple weeks later to kill any offspring
In Africa they cure kids with bellies full of worms on a daily basis.
Nothing to worry about

Thanks y'all it's been kinda scary. Kinda weak had extra aches and pains, shiting out basically egg sacks. Had a late docs appointment and last minute they just canceled so now I gotta go to urgent care 2mrrw and I have a weak immune system so I'm pissed about that but when i go I'll have answers. As time goes on I think it may be pinworms but either way they do similar things, abdominal pain, stabbing pain in your anus, weakness, aches pains, insomnia. So like y'all said hopefully if it's that it is super treatable. So I'm going to ride tonight out nd get a ride to urgent care 2mrrw.

Nah I think those medical issues that started when I was 14 were unrelated. I wish it were that simple and if it were I'd be beyond stoked because that's been an issue that I didn't , mention all of the symptoms because I've been played with GI issues like that since I was 14. The reason I brought it up is because I didn't see the warning signs of this parasite whatever it is because I already had those type of symptoms. One of the reasons I think that is because it's just been in the last three or four weeks but it's gotten even worse and some of my issues aren't related so what's going on. I wish it were that easy though. If by some miracle it is I would have a new lease on life because the GI symptoms that have had since that age have been absolutely debilitating.

Typically. Most people in the west get them from fresh fish.
That's why I thought I might have parasites. I've eaten alot of fresh caught fish and shellfish. Good stuff but you really really need to make sure it's fully cooked.
Very rarely people get them at restaurants. If it looks undercooked send it back. Don't be too polite about food safety.

1. Go to a doctor
2. Trim your fingernails
3. Research fasting
4. DO NOT drink turpentine (alotta wackos try to endorse this, but thankfully haven't seen it mentioned)

So I went to urgent care last night and they said yup it's pinworms. Here an RX so I was stoked. Go to fill the 3rd today and they want 800$ and I do not have 800$ so I'm scrambling a bit and going to see if the OTC stuff will do

Try to find a coupon or generic version or ask your doc if there is a less expensive med that does the same thing
Edit - is the medication/drug called levamisole?

This is where the Internet shines. You wasted a lot of money.
Quote:
Diagnosis
Your doctor can confirm the presence of pinworms by identifying the worms or eggs.
To help your doctor make a diagnosis, you can perform the tape test. As soon as the person you suspect has pinworms wakes up and before he or she uses the toilet, washes or gets dressed, press the adhesive side of a piece of transparent tape to the skin around the anus. The eggs stick to the tape.
For best results, perform the tape test three days in a row, and then take the pieces of tape to your doctor. Your doctor can look at the tape under a microscope to see if there are any pinworm eggs. Treatment
To treat pinworm infection, your doctor may recommend over-the-counter pyrantel pamoate or prescribe medication to all members of your household to prevent infection and reinfection.
The most common prescription anti-parasite medications for pinworms are:
Mebendazole Albendazole (Albenza)
You may have mild gastrointestinal side effects during the course of treatment, and you often need to take at least two doses to get rid of the pinworms completely.
Quote:
Pyrantel is a medication used to treat a number of parasitic worm infections.[2] This includes ascariasis, hookworm infections, enterobiasis (pinworm infection), trichostrongyliasis, and trichinellosis.[2] It is taken by mouth.[2]
Side effects include nausea, headache, dizziness, trouble sleeping, and rash.[2] A lower dose should be used in people with liver disease.[2] While it does not appear to be harmful during pregnancy, it has not been studied for this use.[3] It is unclear if it is safe for use during breastfeeding.[2] It is in the antihelmintic family of medications.[4] It works by paralyzing worms.[4]
Pyrantel was initially described in 1965.[5] It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.[6] Pyrantel is available as a generic medication.[4] It costs less than US$25 per course of treatment in the United States.[1] It may also be used to treat worms in a number of other animals.[5] Contents
1 Pregnancy and breastfeeding 2 Mechanism of action 3 Names 4 References 5 External links
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pyrantel pamoate is considered a Pregnancy category C drug for use during pregnancy for humans, but is in category A for canines and felines. Pyrantel is considered safe to use in nursing animals.[7] Mechanism of action
Pyrantel pamoate acts as a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent, thereby causing sudden contraction, followed by paralysis, of the helminths. This has the result of causing the worm to "lose its grip" on the intestinal wall and be passed out of the system by natural process. Since Pyrantel is poorly absorbed by the host's intestine, the host is unaffected by the small dosage of medication used. Spastic (tetanic) paralyzing agents, in particular pyrantel pamoate, may induce complete intestinal obstruction in a heavy worm load.[8] This obstruction is usually in the form of a worm impaction and happens when a very small, but heavily parasitized animal is treated and tries to pass a large number of dislodged worms at once. Worms usually pass in normal stool or with diarrhea, straining, and occasional vomiting. Names There are a number of brands, including "Reese's Pinworm Medicine", "Pin-X", "Pin-Rid","PYRANTRIN", "COMBANTRIN", "Anthel", "Helmintox", "Helmex", "Strongid" and Drontal Cat.

No I don't . I've had a lot of mental issues this past year and went from bad to worse in those departments. I really do want to exercise but every time I start to I have immense pain. I'm going to have to push through it eventually but it's been hard recently. Also I've been eating a lot of takeout recently because our stove broke. Drugs I've needed more of as more problems hit but I keep it to a certain amount a day for each med I take.

Yeah I'm sure trying all those avenues, it's just insane because that was the generic price and there's a 10$ version you can get OTC but I do if he rxed that in particular because I let it go on too long or what. Hopefully I can just take the 10$ one or else I'm all kinds of screwed.
Also @ Asante thank you for that info I've been looking at Reeses as well and it seems like that would totally work, if it does I'll be happy and a little pissed that they delayed giving me treatment to try and make money for that drug.

I hand pinworms as a kid once. I pooped and my butthole was super itchy so I wiped and the shit on the paper was riddled with crawly pinworms.
I took the evidence of ass biology straight to mom and I got pills that ended it.

Dead is dead. If your OTC contains Pyrantel and you can match the dose with what Reese gives, by all means take the cheapest generic.
Worm pills should cost next to no money, they hand em out in developing nations like M&Ms.

Go vegetarian. Simple. In third world countries I have seen some horrid ones that stretch out quite large. How you can't notice that in your body I do not know. Or pay 20 grand to have it removed from you.
Garlic, they hate it. Same with onions. For future reference. Always be aware of what you put in your body.
Hey, this guy is suffering. Don't tell us what to eat! Don't care. The constitution used to be that you could put anything in your body. More fascist nowadays. Kidney stones, I helped here then my boss wanted to fuck me.
No judgement, I wish, which is stupid, I hope, I wish. Dumb. Understand your body, psychology, anatomy. And to just sense how you feel. Just learn, we all do in life and only the strongest and intelligent and research with the internet it is easy of course, how to not get those in ones body. And how to get rid of them.
Could post a lot of pictures of tapeworms being removed but I seeing that once is enough. Best to you. Heal. The body has a remarkable way of doing that if one gets it. It is not complicated.

If its just pinworms, poison the well with pyrantelTM
They arre not worms the size of earthworms and they're not the kind that eat through your bowel walls, inro your bloodstream and from there into your major organs and eyes.
Its just pinworms, roughly the size of thin grains of rice.
Interestingly, if you kill em they might digest so its possible that you dont see them come out as they may be digested along with the food.
On the OTD side of things you might crap out a bolus of near pure worm matter
You are now infectious, ideally wipe the rtoilet seat with a lil hand sanitizer to kill the eggs.

Oh well then you do have an idea of how crazy it is, wish it was that clear for me, if I saw anything when wiping I would've been able to tell a lot sooner then this. One of my biggest mistakes was just thinking shit looks weird and if there's a little blood it must've been because of hemmoroids.
Assuming really screwed me. Also when anyone here is going through mental problems where you aren't taking care of hygiene because of depression I know you know it's important but I personally will now have a rule that no matter how depressed I get hygiene is an everyday thing and something you can't ignore even if you don't care about your well being that day. I think partially I thought I have been in positions before where I am camping and much dirtier then I am now, what's the worst that could happen if I only showered a few times in a week while I'm feeling bad? Turns out a lot of bad shit can happen.Quote:

Yeah seeing your post about the effectiveness of it is very encouraging, I'm probably going to do that in the next few hours if I don't get to talk to that doc. You're right it's a very simple chemical fix that should be just as effective as the months rent priced doses that's just fucked up.
@Barnaby it ended up being pinworms but your heart is in the right place and I appreciate that
@ Asante The toilet seat! Of course, I've been washing everything in the house but I forgot that. Yeah I'm going to be getting this I'm sure it'll be a very painful ordeal to expel all those little fuckers but it will be worth every internal scream lol the more I think about it you're right no matter what the doctor says I should just take the Oct stuff asap. It works for tons of other people. Even though I didn't catch mine for a long time dead is dead like you said

Eating isn’t the only way to get one of many different species of parasitic worms They can be transmitted through the skin and other orifices too. Best be cautious everyone.
Next thing you know the worms are going to join forces with the SARS-cov2 virus and transform into something out of a horror flic
ST, often times docs don’t know how much some of the meds they prescribe might cost at any given location. As long as you can take the same dose he prescribed, but with a cheaper otc version, you will essentially be getting the exact treatment you need.
Just make sure you take the equivalent dose in the way he rx’d the original for. Ex. *X drug* - 400mg x TID for 3 days, or whatever it says.

You have your diagnosis
There is a $10 OTC medication (Reeses and generic)
Why then 800 bucks for a prescription fill? :
Are they seriously letting you fill each pill individually?
Even if you already had 1 or 2 doses of the Rx one, if it means you can dodge a $800 bill just do a $10 OTC treatment instead.

$800 is truly Absurd pricing. Here’s what wiki says about cost. Prob wholesome tho
Pyrantel was initially described in 1965.[5] It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.[6] Pyrantel is available as a generic medication.[4] It costs less than US$25 per course of treatment in the United States.[1] It may also be used to treat worms in a number of other animals.[5]
Hmmm 🤔
Once my mother needed an RX medication filled that insurance didn’t cover for - would have cost me $120-125 to fill. Then I looked it up online and saw that It was literally in the OTC isle next to the pharmacy counter
Cost me like $8-16 for a box.
I’ve had a similar thing happen when I’ve needed an RX med - the doc didn’t know better Found an alternative for cheaper that did the trick....
That’s why it can be good to get a second pro opinion from another doc or a couple pharmacists and or also just use the internet -Such a valuable resource.

Yeah it's actually a great point and to bring up skin transmission because when I was talking to a pharmacist that happens to be a microbiologist she was explaining that they almost never need pinworm medication because cases were very rare and apparently in the last few months she and other pharmacies have been getting many cases out of the blue. She said you can also get pinworms by walking barefoot or even with socks somewhere where a dog has pooped at one point. It is definitely noteworthy to keep in mind. Lmao it did cross my mind I'd get Covid and pinworms which would be a god awful isolation and experience. When I was in Urgent Care I must have washed my hands 5 times. After I got home it's non stop hand washing.
I gotta say I really appreciate everyone here and love how my shroomy family always are there when really needed, it's helped me twice recently both involving my ass unfortunately lol and I've got nothing but great advice and great support.
And I got the meds after searching 3 pharmacies and it's just the generic pyrantel Asante was talking about and it's in a liquid form so now I need to calculate how much is an extra 60mg because it's 140mg dose or something close to that. When I get home I'll look at the box to see how much is how many mgs it's liquid so at least I can add on.
One step closer to a 3 week insomnia and extra pain fest.Quote:

There's no way else to say it He scammed me. Luckily we didn't take the bait but I'm sure plenty of people are getting scammed just like that. It was absolute horseshit. The drug they tried to push was called albendazole

Here, read this!
Quote:
Cost
In many areas of the world it [Albendazole] costs between US$0.01 and US$0.06 per dose.[49] In the United States, however, it costs about US$50 per dose, as of 2014.[3][50]
In Raleigh, North Carolina, the brand-name prescription cost was around US$800, and US$540 for the generic. The pharmaceutical company Amedra increased the price after purchasing the rights to the drug, instead of lowering it as generics are predicted to do, drawing criticism from patients' rights advocates and US Democratic Party leaders.[51]
In 2013, GlaxoSmithKline donated 763 million albendazole tablets for the treatment and prevention of parasitic infections in developing countries, bringing the total to over 4 billion tablets donated since 1998.[52]
See? the US consumer is being made to pay 500x more than lets say a Brazilian consumer, and your doctor still prescribed that dazzlingly overpriced stuff.
Then the other Rx, Mebendazole:
Quote:
Mebendazole is available as a generic medication.[6] Mebendazole is distributed in international markets by Johnson and Johnson and a number of generic manufacturers.[18] Cost
In the United States a single dose was about US$18.00 in 2015.[3] In 2016 the price increased to US$440.00 per dose in the U.S. as Amedra Pharmaceuticals acquired the rights from Teva in 2013.[19]
In 2010, Amedra also bought the U.S. marketing rights to the only other interchangeable anti-parasitic medication, albendazole, from GSK. The result of these acquisitions created a monopoly on these medications and the price increased dramatically.[20] In 2015 Amedra Pharmaceuticals became a subsidiary of Amneal Pharmaceuticals.
In Australia 6 x 100mg costs approximately US$9 while in the UK this would cost around US$19.[19]
Your doctor shouldve said "Look buddy, if I draw my Rx book it will cost an arm and a leg, just get it OTC for 10 bucks From Reese's - also indicated for pinworm.

You see what the bastards at Amedra Pharmaceuticals did, they bought the US rights to the 2 interchangable antiparasitics and priced them to kingdom come. Sucks if you have another type of worm for which there is no OTC alternative.
This practice should be ILLEGALIZED.
You cant just buy the rights to a group of drugs for a type of illness and make them 10 or 100x as expensive, while these drugs are around for decades.
That is criminal. I think most judges would agree that this should not be legal
These drugs cost $440 per kilo in China, not per PILL.

Jesus that's a hell of a cautionary tale from both of us, if we didn't take a step back and say don't freak out maybe I can get it otc we'd have never known it and just got totally fucked. Yup I just took my first dose which was one full bottle so wish me luck.Quote:

Back again to remind you to trim your fingernails. This will likely happen again if it's hygiene related.

If you think you have tapeworm just go to vet... they know how to handle them and will see you for a hell of lot cheaper than a doctor.

Yeah that's an awful sad reflection of our health care system.
I don't know if this is psychosomatic or not but I do feel slightly less itching then I did. Who knows it could be a placebo type effect but whatever it is I'm glad for it. Still have the aches and pains in abdominal pain tho that is very expected. Think it'll take 5-7 days.

Pin worms are small right? A long toilet paper looking worm doesn't sound like pin worms idk, maybe it was a wad of pin worms or something.

Not trying to freak you out or anything but if the US pin-worms are the same worms as NL ass maggots your body should have taken care of it by itself now. According a Dutch medical website pin-worms disappear in 4 to 6 weeks when practicing good hygiene
But the meds you got will kill a whole bunch of different worm species including tapeworms
