I hate my job.

I'm a middle man between IT and another department, essentially performing app support type of tasks.
The work itself isn't bad, and it pays great... but my boss is a micromanager and my team lead is a bitch. The other staff on my team feels the same way. I've had enough of them. Friday afternoon, last week, I went over their heads (after trying to resolve the issues with them directly over the past months) to my department director to talk about some of the issues. He is aware of the conflict occurring at different levels, not just my team. Now I think I have a target on my back, as if I didn't already with those two. In either case, I am ready to check out and find another job.
The problem is the pandemic. I don't know what else is out there right now for me. Adding to that, I would love to get into software development. It's a hobby of mine that I would like to do professionally. Either that, or a more directly IT type of position. I am not really qualified for that type of work though. I have some certs, I have some incomplete programming projects, and really not much time to finish them right now. I have a degree in English.
Mostly posting to vent, but I would love suggestions on what to apply for or advice on how to move forward from here. At the company, I am not seeing a lot of opportunities in my area of interest. Is anybody else out there stuck in this situation as well? How are you handling it??

I'm in a similar situation.
Don't have too much advice, but I can commiserate and tell you what I'm thinking.
I too have an English degree, but work in a technology field. I used to be in a role that was maybe 25% Account Management/ relationship building, and the other 75% Professional Services doing various tasks to help customers use our company's platform, build stuff for them, create custom reports, troubleshoot issues, etc. I liked it because it had some technical stuff, but I got to do lot's of different things.
I went to a new job just before the pandemic hit. It is for a company with a much more technical product, and my role is really more of an account manager, which I hate. They didn't train me enough about the product to be able to have decent conversations with customers, but I'm supposed to try to "own" the post-sales relationship. Most conversations I listen in on are technically way over my head, and the product and industry is such that it would take me forever to try to learn everything on my own. Our documentation is awful, and there isn't a way for me to play with a sandbox without potentially messing something up.
I'm thinking of taking an online boot camp for coding or data analytics. I taught myself programming early in my career, although not in anything that's still used widely, so would need to learn a useful set of skills for today's market. But I'm also concerned about finding another job during the pandemic, especially without a CS degree or much solid experience.
I pick things up pretty fast, but I'm not sure employers will give me a chance. And I'm sure I'll ve competing with more experienced applicants for positions.

Digital nomad life ftw. I've met many traveling in SE Asia, they do analytics or coding typically but I'm sure there's tons of options. They'll make a Western salary while living in beautiful places cheaply, then retire early somewhere their dollar can stretch.

Yeah strander, we are pretty much in the same situation, except my current role is a little more technical, dealing more with software configuration for various departments, which can be really complex at times. Before this I was a teacher, and then I was a case manager for disabled adults.
Since my boss is a micromanager, she never delegates work to us or passes knowledge on. Some of our department meeting topics are still way too technical for me as well, even after 2 years. The lead is entirely unapproachable, and she prefers to make us feel stupid vs training us properly.
My skills with programming are more in web development, but I just don't have any finished projects, save for some small business websites with hardly any code, and I don't want to get into front end. I would like to start a small business automating office tasks for local businesses, but I don't know how to get started. I've offered friends assistance but nobody bites.
I wish I could move, but I am pretty settled in my area.

That sounds like the kind of stuff I would want to do, writing scripts or creating utilities to solve problems or automate tasks in MS products, batch scripts, etc. I learned programming to be able to do things the software I ran couldn't do, or customize how it ran by manipulating the data from the backend database. It wasn't very complex but I learned basic relational databases and object oriented programming and really liked the fun of learning to solve unique problems every day.
I have thought about being an SE because they get to do a lot of the fun solutioning for a customer pre-sales. But I would prefer my job success to not be based on how many customers I bring in because I don't like telling white lies to sell things, and that's what most of the sales teams I've seen do. They don't always lie exactly, they just don't 100% understand what the product does, and end up making it sound as if it does something it doesn't do to win the sale. Then the people who deliver post sales have to deal with the fallout later. I wouldn't be able to do that on purpose, ever, so my sales partner would probably hate me.
I want to basically be a handyman, but with coding. I'll learn another system or language to do it, as long as the company gives me a bit of runway to do it. But unfortunately I don't think that job exists under those circumstances.

"people don't quit jobs - people quit managers." - Forbes
The people you work with make or break the experience.
Same boat dude. Given the economy you can look for other jobs but it's best to try to make your peace with it for the time being.
Given part of the issue is lack of training (again same boat) it will get better as you gain experience.

I quit lots of jobs without anything lined up and it always worked out until the last time I did it.
If it goes wrong it can leave your life in tatters.

Sorry that happened to you.
I'm paranoid that places will be less open to hiring me if I haven't had a job for a while, so even if I have enough money saved up to last a while, it makes me pause. But it also means I end up staying in jobs I don't like because I'm afraid to leave them without something lined up.

jeez man what happened? id figure worst case is you are sleeping in your car for a while, but sometimes shit is a lot more complicated than that.
OP I would start shotgunning applications elsewhere. Submit like 15-20 over a weekend and see what happens. Maybe it blows over and you just needed to vent or whatever, or maybe you get a callback that leads to a better life. I have chosen a job as a career literally because of my boss (bosses really because the one before my current one was equally awesome); if she wasnt there and I had a boss constantly up in my shit, it would take less than a month before I GTFO. Instead I plan to retire here. Having a good relationship like that is everything, and there is plenty to go around you just gotta find it.

I haven’t hit that hard yet. Maybe I won’t. Just unhappiness and fear.
I guess not “tatters”
Sorry for being hyperbolic.
Car living would mean losing my dog though and that’s a suicider.
