Everybody says the government shouldnt get involved in the obesity epidemic, and if that means removing soda pop from vending machines, or getting rid of super sized fries or stuff like that, I agree, If Coke wants to sell me a 1 gallon soda pop for 99 cents, thats between me and Coke
but one thing where the government could really shine is by subsidizing healthy foods instead of corn, if I could get cheaper apples and cellery, cheaper then Hearshys chocolate and Doritos, I may buy the fruit and vegetables more often
maybe not, maybe we would just get high fructose apple syrup

Just tax the shit out of junk food.
We taxed cigarettes to the max in Canada and the percentage of smokers plummeted.

Sin tax is just policing arbitrary morality. It can be effective, but is a negative approach.
gopher is suggesting a positive approach of having the government give an incentive towards the healthier option. This would be great. Corn is really bad plant. Not healthy, not good for fuel, and HFCS....
The only reason America pushes it so hard is because maize is new world, so we got that on lock

People respond more to consequences than incentives.
People will go out of their to avoid minor consequences. People will respond to incetives only if they are high enough to apply for them.
Loss aversion is a powerful motivator.

We should arbitrarily murder people too fat to run away and too fat to hide.
Also to kill all billionaires and feast upon their flesh.

Until we get fat and hunted by secret government forces.

Solution: Force everyone to round with nurses and doctors in the hospital and watch us explain to patients that we need to cut of their foot because they had diabetes and cut themselves while trimming their toenails?
