Fumble1130's First P. Cubensis grow on bulk casing

So I decided to try my hand at growing P. cubensis, and started off inoculating 21 BRF jars. Fortunately, way more of them made it to full colonization than I planned so I found myself with 4 more cakes then I could fit into my SGFC. So I crumbled the cakes up and layered them with pasteurized 50/50 coir/verm and put them in a 10-gallon aquarium with a sheet of plastic as a top. Here's the timeline:
6/29 - inoculated BRF 7/11 - Jars fully colonized 7/27 - mixed crumbled up caked into bulk casing layer 8/3 - Here it is today. The mycelium started showing up last night. I'm surprised, tbh, I thought my spawn/bulk ratio was way too low.

More later

8/5 - I've got mycelium growth, looks like thousands of tiny white threads poking through the casing. Weird, I haven't seen a picture like that before.

Phew, thanks. I was pretty sure but this being my first time, I'm a little like a new parent.

Nice. Looks like its working
BTW although the terminology is correct using "casing" most people now call it substrate with casing now being referred to as the top layer used after colonization.

Thanks! I have been a bit confused about the terminology. I thought bulk casing was a casing substance (in this case, coir/verm) mixed in with the spawn whereas bulk substrate was a nutritious substrate (poop/straw) mixed with the spawn, often then covered by a casing layer. But I have no problem admitting I'm wrong.

I am not sure if there is really a "right" and "wrong", just the current use of the terms.

Got some good shrooms! It looks like the yield is lower than similar setups I've seen, maybe because I only used 4 BRF cakes? Maybe because it's in an aquarium without passive FAE, relying only on my fanning? Doesn't matter really, it proves that I am not the one dude who is completely incapable of growing shrooms :-)
