Flow hood items

Hi all, I am looking to build a flow hood and have an 1170x570 filter on the way. The fans i have seen people build with are not available where I am, so does anyone think that this inline fan could do the job?

You can get the Dayton blowers from amazon.. you can even find free shipping.

Those fans are not recommended, they create turbulence and usually don't have much pressure.

For hepa filters i keep seeing meters cubed per hour - m3/h. larger filters around 1800m3/r to 2800m3/r - are these filters for clean rooms or mycology work?

Click the easy flowhood math template in my sig
You want a filtration efficiency of 99.99% against airborne particles 0.3 microns in size. I'd recommend 99.999 @ .1 however.
Match the blower as per the info in my signature.

Thanks p9hu7!
Thats a great template you have. I see that your own formula state air flow at 100ft/minutex____ft2, so i guess, as the listings on alibaba are m3/hour, i have to convert to m3 to feet and the hour to minutes?

Just convert it toFPM using google
Edit:
Whoops, I just caught this. Convert to CFM using google.

So I just realized that I made a mistake in my last post. You can't convert your volumetric flow to velocity, lol. My bad.
Anyways, when your filter is listed at either a certain ft³/m or m³/hour these two numbers are a measure of volumetric flow, and can be converted to one or the other, that is to say the volume of air used at their test rate.
So what you need to find out is how much static pressure your filter has at a certain velocity(air speed), which is different. You're looking for no less than 90 feet/min and probably no greater than say 120-125 ft/min. Go back to your filter info, post here and it will be easier. You're aiming for around at least .50 inWG @100 ft/min for laminar flow.
The volume of air is important when calculating how much air needs to be moved through the filter to achieve that velocity evenly across the surface of your filter via a blower, that's how the blowers gets matched.

So I was unable to locate the common type of blower usually used for flow hoods but i managed to find these. The do have pressure, unlike the first fan in the post, so I'm wondering if others have some input here. Will these fans work for flow hood construction?

You can certainly use inline fans, they just need to meet your specs. Plenty of people use them.

I didn't say best, as for should... I live in Canada and it was the best that could be found at the beginning of covid. I have lot's of money, it's not a problem. Don't build a hood if you're poor
Edit: Dayton squirrel cage blowers are just as expensive here. I contacted an HVAC engineer at Grainger that suggested that particular blower because the available Dayton blowers didn't really fit those parameters.

Anything like that has to be ordered from the US and shipped across the border, conversion rates, shipping plus taxes and everything else inflates the rates well above what you guy's have to pay down south.
I just purchased a 75x for 1400, that's 900 US, god only know's what it will be all in once it makes it's way here.
