Help! What is this?
    #26859712 - 08/02/20 08:38 PM (3 years, 5 months ago)

There's a few shrooms on my cakes that had a brown spot, while other shrooms on the same cake had none. In the ones pictured, the brown patch seems to have taken over the cap.
I'd be very grateful if this could be identified. Also like to know if it is ok to dehydrate and eat or if I should cut out the offending brown caps or just throw the whole cake away? TIA!

Looks like a mutant to me. Either from stressed out myc or just genetics.

I wouldn’t worry unless you have mold present.

👍

Thanks Entheo! I don't see any molds. Throw them out, or is it safe to eat?

As long as they aren’t moldy they are safe to eat I wouldn’t worry about it. Just be sure to inspect them for molds first. I don’t see any problem there though. Also inspect the cakes for anything out of the ordinary.

Cubes are safe to eat so long as there’s no rot or molding on them. And no problem at all I’m glad I could respond and help out. Hopefully more people chime in.
