When is the right time to open a spawn bag and start the casing?

My spawn bag with rye vermiculite mix is now fully colonized (enveloped in white mycelium), however you can naturally see only the outer layer. There is likely a timespan between a substrate being fully colonized on the outside, and FULL colonization throughout the substrate. So if I opened the bag too early I would expose the remaining uncolonized substrate from within the bag to contaminants. Do you add a certain number of days after full external colonization before you open the bag?
P.S. And apparently the containers where the substrate along with the casing is put (is there a term for those?) have to have holes in them for drainage? Even though you don't seem to have to water your substrate?

If you shook your bags it should all be colonized. And even if you didnt, if you can see that myc is covering the entire thing then its highly probable to be fully colonized.
And no drainage for the containers. You should read up on basic teks like bod's unmodified mono, or just regular shoebox like SFF shoebox tek.

[...] until colonized fully this means not just the surface but throughout the cake. This will usually happen 3-4 days after the outside has been colonized. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/3290155

" until colonized fully this means not just the surface but throughout the cake."
Thats for a cake. A PF cake which is more compact and take much longer to colonize than grains in a bad or jar.

I wanted to add; For people that dont have much experience growing we recommend them to use a tek that is "recent", meaning not 10+ years old and to follow the tek entirely.

You're right, the search function is also a dangerous thing as the sorting of "relevant posts" also routinely shows quite old posts which I don't always notice in time.

Set the filter in the search engine "not older than 5 years" for example.

It entirely depends on where the myc is growing from. As stated earlier, if the bag was shaken at any point it should colonize relatively evenly. If in doubt just give it a couple days. You should know based on watching it up until now. Was it colonizing from every direction or growing out from one location? Myc produces magic but it doesn't magically jump from one place to another.... ya know?
