Leaving grain bags out to check contams

Anyone leavng their pre-incoulated bags out for an extended period of time to check for contams before injecting? I have been using this technique as part of a process of elimination to reduce contams before spawning to bulk.
I leave the bags unused for 2-4 weeks before knocking up. I experience 2 of 25 with some form of contam or a 96% clean bag rate.
Sterilization tek off or is this to be expected?

Nah whats the point? If they contam they contam. Just gonna toss the bad ones anyway. 2-4 weeks is valuable colonization time.

You have a 92% clean rate not 96%, just for clarity...2/25=0.08
Its slightly high
But Genghis is right whats the point because you already made the bags, it's not saving anything but 8% inoculum at the best.
Give your mycelium the biggest jump start on contams as possible by inoculating asap.

well if ur knocking up with spores thats an extreme waste of time. cuz 8 times outta 10 they r prolly gnna atleast go bacterial on you to some extent. use agar first and get it on the grain as fast as possible. that way if there is anything in there good strong fast myc at least can have a chance to out run them

Thanks. I am using agar->LC->grain. I know the downfalls of MS spores to grain - leaned a long time ago So now i have some bags that have been sitting for 3 weeks - they look fine (except for 1 that was full of what looked like myc, but i didnt knock it up so i tossed it). I'll give them a whirl this week.
